    Dinner 2024

Although we were only in 90% eclipse path, it was still a very amazing event. Even dogs in the area were barking when the sky was getting darken. It's been known that some animals (humans? 😊) behave strangely during a solar eclipse. When eggs were on sale, I bought a few dozens. They are taking too much room in the fridge. Have been trying to find ways to use them up. So made this dish for a quick dinner. Sunny Side Up Eggclipse Fried sunny-side-up eggs on squid ink pasta, painted with home made black garlic sauce. dcarch
  2. I have a laptop in the kitchen on news most of the time, in case WWIII starts. Other times the laptop is on YouTube. So if I am cooking French (food), it will be playing French music, if I am cooking Indian, it will be Indian music, so on and so forth. You can find music in any culture on YouTube. dcarch

A belated Easter dinner. SV roasted prime rib steak. I had a bone to pick with the butcher. The way he cuts the steaks. The rib bones are not parallel to the face of the meat, which makes it difficult to have a steak with uniform thickness. So I use my reciprocating multitool to slice the bone lengthwise. Not messy and quick. dcarch

Shelby, sorry that you have to go thru this not very pleasant situation. Plenty of folks here will give you food and eating ideas to minimize discomfort. Someone I know had gone thru the same thing during the pandemic. The dental office shut down in the middle of her procedure because the dentist died and a few of the assistants got infected. Hope everything will go smooth for you. Let us know your progress, all information are very much on-topic food/eating that would be beneficial for everyone here. dcarch 😒

A King's Ransom! A way to enjoy king crabs is not to look at the price tag and not to do the calculation to figure out how much is the meat per pound after shelling. This is to avoid indigestion.🤣 dcarch
  7. High current/high voltage batteries most likely would be hardwired and they will not be cheap because the balancing charging electronics. dcarch
  8. I agree. Yes, let's get back on topic, about cooking. I was very happy recently that the off-grid system I built/configured from solar panels, successfully sous vided a 100 hour 8-lb brisket. The system to connect the main components from solar panels to controller to inverter to monitor, to batteries etc. was critical and complicated even for an off-grid (meaning one-way system). A two way on-grid system may be 10 times more complicated. Imagine if you have to design a traffic control system for a high speed highway that both north going and south going traffic are using the same lanes. dcarch
  9. It gets very complicated. Solar panel system is low voltage DC power which needs to be converted and stepped up to 110vAC (or 220vAC) to feed to the grid. Car batteries in general put out around 400VDC, which needs to be stepped down and converted to 110VAC. Not easy and not cheap for high power (amperage) electrical and electronic bi-directional system work. So, adding batteries to kitchen appliances to tie into the grid? good luck finding a repair person if some thing goes wrong. dcarch
  10. "-------With V2G technology, electricity can be taken from the car battery and pushed back into the grid. V2G and vehicle-to-X (for example vehicle to home, vehicle to building) are basically the same technology. The key word is bi-directional.-----" All batteries have limited charge/discharge cycles. The more you cycle the quicker the battery ages. We all know how soon a cell phone's battery needs to be replaced. Have you check out how much it can cost you to replace a car battery? WOW! It sounds to me the VAG concept means your batteries will be constantly charged and discharged. dcarch
  11. What is the antonym of "PLAN"? 🤥 This is my 2024 tomatoes seedling start tags. Working on tags for other vegetables. dcarch
  12. Good to see you back posting. I have no comment, I grow all my tomatoes organic. dcarch
  13. That is a lot of power to heat up a pan/pot almost instantly. 1. A lot of power requires a lot of copper to heat up and then cool down. Copper is in short supply and very expensive. That's why many wires and cables are made with aluminum nowadays. 2. High power high frequency magnetic cooktop, have they look into pace maker issues? 3. Many of my pots' and pans' bottoms are warped even on low heat cooktops. 4. For some people, it is nice to have a car with 1,000 HP engine just to get there a few minutes faster. dcarch

One of the many dishes for the Lunar New Year of the Dragon dinner. Dragon roll sushi, with head and tail, as required by the tradition. Pot stickers to symbolize gold ingots for prosperity, also common tradition for new year. dcarch
  15. Soon, there will be tomatoes with Bacon and lettuce DNA . Just think how much time we can save making a BLT. dcarch
