  1. Full and total disclosure right off the bat: I'm with Men's Health magazine. We’re on a mission to discover the manliest restaurants in America, and we’re on the hunt for nominees. What places across the country do you think deserve the title? Have you been to most legit taco truck in all of the Southwest? The most authentic newspaper tablecloth crab shack in the Mid-Atlantic? The best throwback steakhouse in Vegas? A biker bar built inside a missile silo that’s serving up an unbelievable shepherd’s pie? Okay, the last one's a little extreme, but you get the point... What would be your nominees?
  2. Any hunters found any out there yet? I figured we've had such a soggy winter, they'd be sprouting like crazy now, but I didn't find a single one last week out here in eastern PA. What's the hold up. My stomach can't wait much longer...
  3. I've been interested in this as well. Could you also tell me how much the supplies cost? There's a certain cool factor to making your own, but if I'm spending more money to make it than I would be buying it, I'm not sure how feasible it is.

    Yelp

Here's an update on the legal case against Yelp: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=10144501 The brief: "That lawsuit was amended in March to add nine more companies — some Yelp advertisers, some not. It alleges Yelp sales representatives indicated to businesses that they could alter site listings to help advertisers and harm non-advertisers, and that Yelp has actually done so."
  5. The most drool-inducing, crave-worthy, stomach-satisfying burger I've never been able to shake from my taste buds is, hands down, In-and-Out. No chain makes a burger as flavorful, as beautiful, and as well-balanced. To refute the Five Guys phenomenon—I've found their burgers to be sloppy and greasy. The toppings often overwhelm the meat and the buns are soggy and lackluster. Is it just me, or is this place all marketing hype? I may catch some flack for this, but I still think that the best widely-available fast food burger is McDonald's Big Mac. Yes, it's sloppy and greasy, too, but there's no other burger as iconic, and deservedly so. I still crave a Mac every couple of months.

    Avocado Recipes

No one's said my favorite avocado dish yet. I had it when I visited France when I was young and still remember the flavors to this day. Plus, it's simple. 1) Take an avocado, split it in two and remove the pit. 2) Place two to three canned anchovies over each half. 3) Drizzle with a slight amount of homemade Italian dressing. 4) Eat with a spoon, scooping the avocado from the skin. Serves 1, or if you love it as much as I do, 2. The creaminess of the ripe avocado helps balance the fishiness of the anchovies. The dressing provides just the right about of acid. Amazing.
  7. Has anyone tried any celeb-type recipe-based apps yet? Martha's Everyday Food App http://www.marthastewart.com/app Jamie Oliver's 20 Minute Meals App http://www.jamieoliver.com/20-minute-meals/ These types of apps usually spend a week or two on iTunes most downloaded section, but then fall off. I was wondering if it was because of poor design that usurps the star power, or if there's just a small group of loyal followers who buy it once and hang on to it.

    Yelp

My opinion is that Yelp shouldn't be ignored, but it shouldn't be taken as word either. When I use the site, I look for trends throughout the reviews. Do a high percentage of the posters report poor service? Do several of them complain about a noisy atmosphere? Does the kitchen misfire frequently? If so, it may be enough to sway me from paying the bar/restaurant a visit. But if the one star review comes from someone who complained that the waiter didn't refill her drink a third time, or thought her chicken fingers "weren't tasty enough," I'm going to pass it over. So far, this approach has suited me well.
