  1. Eternal, I've left the ice cream mix in the fridge for 24+ hours and had no issue with it, in terms of texture or sanitation. Typically I always leave it in for that long, since it cuts down the actual freezing/churning time to only about 15 minutes. And jk, I also tried my hand at Momofuku's cereal milk ice cream, although I made mine as an egg-based custard with Honey Bunches of Oats. Didn't toast the cereal either, just let it sit for an hour or so in the milk and cream before making the custard as I usually do. Turned out well, although people felt a bit grossed out when they figured what the flavor was. I guess they don't like the idea of eating someone else's "leftover" cereal milk I want to try recreating Momofuku's old-fashioned doughnut ice cream next!
  2. I had dinner here recently, and overall I like the place. Atmosphere is cozy, staff was friendly for the most part, and prices are ok (if a bit on the high side). It's a shame I never tried it earlier, since I thought both food and drinks were good. For drinks I enjoyed the Belhaven Twisted Thistle and Racer 5 IPA (preferred Racer 5). Food: Had the fried chicken, delicious and the spiced honey drizzled over the top really made it--they should serve that honey on the side for dipping! Broccoli rabe appetizer was way salty, however, and my friend was unhappy with his lentil sloppy joe. The main complaint, though, was that I felt like we were being rushed out the door which I hate. We had been sitting total for about an hour when I asked for a dessert menu, the waitress told me the choices, then proceeded to drop off the check 3 minutes later! Guess she didn't want us to order anything Overall, a worthy and more upscale neighborhood alternative to Grace Tavern or Doobie's.
  3. I tried balsamic and honey roasted figs with my vanilla ice cream once, it was really good. Also teagal, I had the famous olive oil gelato at Batali's Otto (both flavored with olive oil and drizzled over the top), I loved it and have been meaning to make some of my own. Give it a try!
  4. I have a friend who makes his own jam/conserves. I tend to avoid buying them from the store cause they are usually far too sweet for my tastes, so I've been meaning to learn from him.
  5. I ate at Meme a year ago or so, and left with a good impression of the place--I had the duck dish pictured above, thought it was cooked and seasoned well. I went back a month ago, and it got worse (either that or I ordered the wrong dishes)! The smoked salmon flatbread was unexciting, the date sauce on the foie gras appetizer was way too sweet, catch of the day was very bland. The butternut squash agnolotti was alright, but wouldn't order it again. A shame about this place, since I enjoyed it a lot the first time. At this point, I find Noble more promising.
