  1. I've never objected to the stemware at Blu, but I have at other places--but have never (doubt I would ever) bring my own.  That said, if you're particular enough to post this question, I'd suggest you bring your Reidels just in case--but see what you think of theirs before you (no pun intended) break yours out!  My two cents.

Also--expect them to whisk your bottle away after they pour--if you object, just tell them you want to keep it at the table.

Have a GREAT meal!  And happy birthday!

    Thanks Curlz!

Great meal...very impressed. I had the beet salad and the duck breast. Everyone else had fish....the escolar and the ahi. Curlz...I winged it and their stemware was fine. Brought a 2007 Stadt Krems Gruner Veltliner and a 2008 St. Urbanshof Okfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett.

Both matched really well with the food. The service was excellent........very professional and attentive without being obtrusive. I can't wait to try Next Door!

  3. Going to Blu tonite for the first time for my birthday. Do they have decent stemware? I will be bringing some incredible wine and just wonder if I should bring my Riedels.

  4. Seymour's is on it's 3rd incarnation. Originally owned by Seymour (Schramm I think his last name is); Lou Bucca bought it from Seymour. Lou owned it for years and sold it to a guy named Gary a year or 2 ago (Don't know his last name) He previously was a counterman at Livingston Bagel for 15 years. Gary has introduced some new menu items. But Seymour's has been a go to place for years. It's got a very interesting vibe to it, and the food is solid...nothing fancy but it works.

Tragically Lou Bucca took his own life a few months ago.

  5. I went yesterday and had an INCREDIBLE Pastrami sandwich. It had that melt in your mouth quality that you get at Katz's. Mark the owner stopped by and asked how everything was and I gave him the thumbs up. Eppes essen just lost my business!

    Irving's is the real deal.

  6. Alembic, if this is true, I'm very, VERY sad.  Those were awesome bagels, despite the owner's attitude.

    Curlz:

I'll give them one more try but I'm not hopeful. And your right..the Bagel Nazi did make INCREDIBLE bagels. But i refuse to hand over my $ to people who are nasty and she took the prize.

  7. I have received gossip/ a snippet of info/ a probable possibility that there has been an ownership change at Super Duper Bagel in Livingston. The spunky, small woman is no longer there and the owners of Jerusalem West bought the place. I understand that they use the same recipe as before, which is to say it it a classic.

More confirmation to come, as we will be patronizing the place today.

Spunky small woman? I do not go there any more even though they have the best bagels around.... she is widely known as the Bagel Nazi because of her nasty attitude, and I will not give any retailer my $ if they have an attitude. I HOPE SHE IS GONE SO i CAN GO THERE AGAIN!

"There must be something up, I think mr dean and mr deluca live very close to the soho store and I can't believe that they think the store is acceptable, the fish counter is a joke, it's very prettily laid out but when you look at it a little closer the quality is terrible and the fish guy who's usually there in the afternoons knows very little (putting it kindly). The store's always full though, they must have cottoned on, you can let the standards slip, save a load of money and 99 percent of people don't even notice. I'm going to check Fiorelli's out on Saturday. "

Uh...Joel Dean passed away in 2004 and Giorgio DeLuca has nothing to do with it since he and Joel sold the store years ago. Though it must sadden him to see how the quality has dropped, there's probably not a thing he can do.

  9. I heard some interesting news yesterday as i got my car washed on Rt. 10 in East Hanover. It seems that wegmans has bought out the Burger King on Route 10 across from Home depot. they are going to knock it down and redo that strip of route 10, which will give the proposed wegmans a better access to the highway WITHOUT causing traffic headaches. Becuase of this apparently the yown will now approve the Wegmans at the original site next to the High school. I hope this is true. i can't wait because frankly its a schlep to drive to Bridgewater or Woodbridge.

I'm wondering if the pie that came out was actually "well done" or just off of well done, because of the heavy char on some parts of the pizza. I actually like mine that way. Maybe you actually need to tell them you want it that way to ensure crunchy/crispy crust.

I always ask for it crispy and sure enough the Star pie was SOGGY MUSH.

And for what its worth IMHO, DeLorenzo's and Star shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. DeLorenzo's is the best pizza i've ever had anywhere. What sucks is that they are 50 miles from my house while Star is about 4.

  11. Not a fan either! No crunch to the pie! I did have a great pie at the Reservoir in Boonton last night, My wife wasn't feeling well so I went alone, sat at the bar, and ordered a bar pie with mushroom and sausage. Delicious and crispy.

The Star tavern pies (even the plain ones) are greasy and have no real crunch.

    Just my .02
