  1. I’ve discovered a vendor at our Farmers Market who cans her excess tomatoes so they are right out of the garden…probably like @Shelbymakes. $12 for a litre glass jar. I use one to make a batch of very simple tomato soup. I don’t have a garden now that we moved to a condo so this is perfect for me. I will be stocking up for the winter. She didn’t have any on her sales bench last week…I asked her ? Are you making them this year and she said that was her project for the week. I am anticipating the price to be a bit higher. I am still buying them!
  2. I would look for a cupboard that has pressure fasteners so the little mice can’t riggle in. I had a very open style kitchen outdoors and always spent the first few weeks in spring trapping mice. I hated that. Poor little creatures.
  3. From Mr. google ’As such, it has approximately 50% less sodium than salt, roughly translating to 280 milligrams of sodium per ½ teaspoon of green salt versus a hefty 1,150 milligrams of sodium per ½ teaspoon of table salt. That's a sizable difference for anyone monitoring sodium intake.’
  4. I grew those peppers a couple of years ago and dried them for a convenient way of preserving them.

Lower glycemic carbs are a smart choice. Loads of charts on the internet. That combined with eating less is a relatively healthy approach to getting a few pounds off.
  6. If they weren’t his shows, Gordon would say ‘revolting’.😆

    Lunch 2023

@C. sapidusthe tacos look fantastic. I recently watched on a cooking show where the chef made a taco by first spreading some fairy mushed refried beans on a flour tortilla but not all the way to the edges. Then he layered a hard shell taco on top and dressed it well with shredded greens, creama and cheese. To eat he just wrapped the flour tortilla around the hard shell. Lots of nice crunch and relatively easy to eat. I am assembling the ingredients for tomorrow’s first try at making them.

@Dejahnice looking meal…..again. Well done. we had homemade vegetarian spring rolls cooked in the CSO, hot and sour soup from the timeless Times International Cookbook and a dressed watercress salad.
  10. Spanakopita, Caesar salad, spinach soup, typical recipes that include greens in combination Include potatoes, pasta and beans. Tonight I happen to using my farmers market kale with pasta, potato and cheese…Deborah Madison Local Flavours Cookbook. I suppose you can always take a supplement targeting eye health.
  11. You can always add four cups of liquid first and check at various times during cooking to see if it needs more. You can then microwave some stock before adding especially when adding the orzo. I would cook the chicken breast side down to help keep it moist but if you have made it before just disregard this.
  12. I am enjoying your travel and dining reports. Thanks for taking the time to capture the moments.
  13. Just saw this. yes, I have always used total weight and 2.5%.

    Vegetable Tian

Over at Serious Eats they suggest cutting the veggies a tad thicker and fry them until brown and a little tender. This drives off moisture and develops a deeper vegetable flavour.

@Shelby lovely looking meals. ”air fryer onion rings”….can you elaborate on how you make them please?
  17. Thanks for your thoughts on this topic. I do not think I need anything more than EYB. As you do, I like using the cook books I have and do not like just using internet recipes unless they are from a very trusted source. So much garbage out there. I have not bought a lot of cook books in the last few years after I got ill. I find I have to sift through all the comments on new books to see comments on the books I have at EYB. Oh well. I am getting old and really do not need any more books as I haven’t even cooked from quite a few books I have. i have so many recipes saved on MacGourmet and in various note books I can’t possibly get to taste these before my time. I am feeling stressed deciding what to cook…just the two of us and my mobility is bad so I have little in the way of energy expenditure. Weight gain is something I do not want so it is difficult. I am sure many of our older members are struggling with a reduction in Basal Metabolic Rate and physical activity. The two components of the energy balance equation. I think recipe organization is an interesting topic and open to lots of discussion.

Congratulations. You are an exceptional home cook. I often go to your internet recipes. And Moe seems a very appreciative audience. Well done and wishes for many more anniversaries.
  19. I made the Pomegranate + Poppy Seed Wings. I cooked the wings in the air fryer. The sauce is really good. Addictive. One can definitely taste the pomegranate molasses but the other ingredients mix so well with it and mellow it out a bit. I made cucumber + Roasted Corn Salad to go with the wings. Delicious. It says it serves four but I ate half of it! Great textures and nice acid.

Ha, ha, we had sous vide beef short ribs with green peppercorn sauce, roasted mushrooms and yellow beans. Red wine was Misson Hill 2008 Compendum.
  21. @SLBglad you find it helpful. I use it daily. I am enjoying all the notes members make about recipes and frequently use the sort by ratings feature to find popular recipes. I believe I took advantage of their initial offer of free lifetime membership…I lucked out.
  22. Just one Canadian.? Humph ☹️ I have been to three on the list. There are definitely similar or better vineyards in Canada.🇨🇦 Like any list…..take with a grain of salt.
