  1. Bought some today and will make margaritas this weekend for unsuspecting Texans. I'll let you know what happens
  2. Really is all of the above. Most casual afternoon consumption is with diet coke (I know) and lime. Make the occasional party punch for when the crew is about. Sometimes soak some raisins in a stiff glass for a couple of hours, drain the liquid into a jar for cooking (i.e. to black beans or ham) and toss the raisins into a Brandy Alexander Much prefer gold/dark to white
  3. Easiest recipe in the world (and most authentic from what I witnessed down there): Fill a plastic pitcher with a generous handful of limes that have been quartered Toss in a 1/2 - 1 full cup of turbinado sugar (light brown, raw variety) Pound the limes into the sugar with a wooden spoon or mallet to distribute juices/pulp Add about a quart of the cheap rum variant of your choice (light stuff) Mix and pour over ice All measurements above are individually varied to taste or intent
  4. A little late to this and trying not to repeat..........but : sweet potato pie any pie, fried puttin' peanuts into a cold bottle of Coca Cola for the fizz red-eye gravy with a cold cured Va. ham bowl of greens (collards, poke salad, whatever) with bacon drippings and vinegar pulled-pork BBQ sandwiches (I see that Brunswick stew was mentioned) on toast, not a bun, with sauce and pickles buttermilk used in baking, or fried oyster batter bourbon balls fruitcake soaked in bourbon ("pour me another slice") egg nog from scratch with bourbon, brandy and a dollop of rum catfish any way you like it
  5. Don't forget to try Curra's on Burnet between 2222 and 183. They're vegetarian chorizo migas are great as is the Oaxachan (sp?) coffee!
