  1. Aww thank you!

It's good ol' simple rustic food which I think many people can appreciate hehe.

And did I hear NO bubble tea (I call it 'pearl tea') in Rochester?! That's nutters! Don't worry, I'm sure there's some foodie places around there that other places miss out on lol.

Which reminds me, I could go fetch soem pearl tea after prac work tomorrow -it's right next door (aren't I evil) :raz:

P.S. What was different about your mapo tofu? Looks yummy in tummy!

Sorry for taking so long to reply!

I think there's a KC Tea & Noodles in Rochester, but I heard it's not that good. I think the closest to good bubble tea is either in Buffalo, Syracuse or Toronto!

And as for my mapo tofu, I dunno if it's the standard mapo tofu because I've never made it. This is what my mom makes at home so I just make her recipe. I just call it mapo tofu because I don't know what else to call it.

  2. Also, on the way home, in our mall I came across the newly opened Bread Papa Cream Puffs store. There was an excited lineup for it!

So, of course, I had to join in the line (my Chinese side comes through at times!) and get some for dessert!

and I got one normal and one chocolate covered...

They are really very good - and it's going to be REALLY tough living with that store just 10 floors below our apartment   I better exercise more!!!!!

I LOVE Beard Papa's! Their cream puffs are so gooooood. The closest one to me (when I'm back home) is in Manhattan. BUT, I don't mind traveling on the bus and then subway to get one because they're so worth it!

  3. Ling, your pictures make me want to go to Asia so bad. It makes me want to take a year off from school and eat my way through Asia...

I showed this thread to my boyfriend while he was at work, and it made him reminiscent of the last time he was in Taiwan and then he proceeded to feel sad because he was stuck in Rochester instead of being in Taiwan :raz:

  4. Last night I just kept thinking..."Hey Spike, K-Fed called and he wants his hat back".

Hahaa, I definitely agree with that. And also, when Andrew said, "It's MY house" - I couldn't help but burst into laughter. I'm sure he was quite serious, but he's so awkward, it was funny.

  5. Omigosh, Ce'nedra, that looks amazing. Makes me miss home so much (I'm originally from NYC, but I go to school in Rochester). There are a few Chinese restaurants in the Rochester area, but nothing really compares with food from NYC... unless I take the 3 hour trip to Toronto! :raz: I went to Toronto last semester with a bunch of friends, but I haven't had the opportunity to this time around because we're all so busy. Another thing I miss about home? Bubble tea!!!

    Anyhoo, some pictures :)

This picture is from a while back, during this past Thanksgiving with the family. Homemade spring rolls, soup, turkey (chopped up), salad and chilled crab. Those were just starters, there was more food later on, but I didn't take pictures because I was too busy stuffing my face!

My own version of ma-po tofu. I made this at my boyfriend's apt (I love his kitchen. I hate cooking at my dorm because I have to carry everything back and forth since it's a communal kitchen). The dish consists of ground pork, some crushed garlic, shiitake mushrooms, soy sauce, and chili sauce.

  6. Chris - you take the most amazing food pictures!

    Ditto.

I haven't had lunch yet, but I'm planning on having some leftover wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and some ramen. And probably an apple and Stacy's Cinnamon Sugar pita chips (I'm so in love with them!)

  7. I go to school in Rochester, and I suppose as a college student, I don't get to try all the aspects of fine dining in Rochester. I've never even heard of Max until I discovered this thread.

I do loooove going to Dino's for some good pulled pork and ribs though. I love their mac salad, wings and cajun corn.

A list of places I usually go to in Rochester? They might not be amazing, but I think they're all pretty decent (and affordable!)

    Dino's BBQ

Jay's Diner (on W. Henrietta) - I love their wings and the fact they're open 24/7.

    Chopsticks (on White Spruce Blvd)

    Delmonico's Steakhouse

SEA restaurant (Southeast Asian restaurant. It's on Monroe. They serve pretty good pho)

    King & I

Cantonese House (on S. Winton road)

Bocaccini's (in Perinton Plaza. Good Italian food. Service is very good.)

Bazil's (in the same area as Chopsticks & Delmonico's)

Buffalo Wild Wings (Every Tuesday, wings are 35 cents each!! Great for wing lovers. They have a wide variety of sauces, ranging from very mild to extremely spicy. My friend told me she couldn't even eat the spiciest one they have cuz it burned in her mouth really bad.)

Steve Tahoe's (on Lyell. It used to be called Nick Tahoe's, but they changed the name. They also remodeled and it looks a lot cleaner and brighter than before.)

There are a couple of other restaurants that I can't remember right now, but when I do, I'll be sure to put them up! :)

And also, has anyone in the Rochester area ever been to Consesus Inn?

  8. China has changed SO MUCH in the past ten years, it's unreal!

It really is unreal. My parents went to Shanghai last year and they told me about all the new buildings, Wal-Marts, restaurants, clubs, etc, there were in Shanghai. I was very very jealous because I didn't get to see it for myself. It's been nearly 6 years since I was last in Asia..

I need to take a trip to China. Like right now. I'm hungry for some amazing food.

  9. Wow! Lasagna AND mashed potatoes at the same meal - a girl after my carb-loving heart!!

Haha! The thought crossed my mind last night that there might be too many carbs, but who cares! If I had to think about it all the time, I'd lose the pleasure of eating delicious food. And as long as it's in moderation, I think it's all right :)

  10. For dinner last night, my boyfriend popped a Stouffer's lasagna in the oven and I made rosemary mashed potatoes to go with. The lasagna was pretty tasty considering it had previously been frozen, though it took like 2 hours and 30 minutes to make; we were both dying of hunger by the time it was finally ready. My boyfriend also cut up an avocado for a small snack and ate it with soy sauce and wasabi. I tried some, and it was pretty good, but I don't like avocado all that much because of its taste. :raz:

I have pictures this time! Yay

    Dinner in a box. Yum...

Rosemary mashed potatoes. They tasted a lot better than they look.

    Avocados, mmm.

    Lasagna.

    Close up. Yum yum.

  11. I liked "No Reservations" (with Catherine Zeta Jones) - I saw it w/ my mom. We both thought it was a cute movie. Also I liked Chocolat and Like Water For Chocolate.

I watched this Korean drama series that had to do w/ food called "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon" I know it's not a movie, but I loved the series. It made me so hungry for desserts and korean food!

  12. All the Korean BBQ restaurants I've been to are on E. 32nd St between 6th ave and 5th ave. There's Shila, Kang Suh, Choong Moo Ro, and Kum Gang San. Shila is open 24 hours. There is also Kun Jip. I've never been there, but I've heard from friends that it's pretty good.

    Hope this helps :)

  13. Hi! This is my first time on the forums; I'm so excited!

All these pictures are making me so hungry!

My boyfriend made dinner last night, ribs & fries - yum yum :)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to take any pictures because I was too busy eating.
