    Pizza Dough

Sam, at what temperature and for how long do you bake the pizza using the above no-knead recipe? Thanks
  3. Went Noodle Bar after hitting Ssam on Sunday for lunch. In addition to momofuku ramen and pork buns, we had asparagus and foie gras dishes. Cherry Lane Farms Asparagus – miso butter, pine nut, egg. I had high expectations for this dish as this being my first in-season asparagus dish but ended up with some disappointment. Asparagus wasn't of great quality, the only interesting thing was the miso butter. Roasted Hudson Valley Foie Gras – sautéed ramps, burnt honey, brisee` - the best dish of the lunch. Burnt honey complemented the fatness of brown foie gras nicely and sauteed ramps enhanced this dish immensely.
  4. Based on my single experience, the wine pours are generous compared to general tasting menu pours (e.g. Babbo). They did pair each course with a different wine except the oloroso sherry accompanied to last 2 dessert courses. I didn't think wine pairings were overly impressive (in $50 pairing) but quantity wise they were more than a decent pour.
  5. How extensive is Ssam's current lunch menu? Other than prix fix lunch menu introduced recently, what other items (other than buns) include? Thanks
  6. There is Shake Shack on Columbus Ave/77th Street for good burgers/shakes. We usually go to Sushi Haru (81Street/Amsterdam) after visits to Museum of Natural history and Children Museum of Manhattan.
  7. After fatguy and Markk's write-up and great pictures, we decided to try Sunday Supper at Beacon with our kids last Sunday. Last Sunday, the skillet special was braised venison with chestnut so I picked up a basic Nebbiolo from Produttori del Barbaresco which I thought would suit well this rustic dish. I don’t want to be too repetitive with the appetizers but oysters and arugula salad were very good. Oyster maintained all its juices and arugula salad was a great simple dish with a small addition of fingerling potatoes. (we had several orders of oysters and arugula salad) Braised venison was delicious and I even ordered the second one. Finally, we finished with balsamic roasted strawberry and cookies which was really delicious. Our waiter confirmed when I asked that they added only sugar and orange zest in addition to balsamic vinegar. Aside from extremely reasonable cost, we really enjoyed our 2.5 hours at Beacon. Service was great, sincere and the staff was very accommodating to the kids.
  8. Just made a reservation for a dinner at Oceana during RW. Did anyone have any RW experience at Oceana? This is their RW menu: http://nycgo.com/cms/uploadedFiles/devnycv...2009%20Menu.pdf Thanks
  9. How crowded/busy gets Momo M&B during weekday lunch time?
  10. JG weekday lunch is $28 for two plates, $12 for each additional plate, so that's $72 for four plates -- if memory serves me well. EMP sounds ok but I think I'd rather splurge for wd-50. Their kind of cuisine is really something that I can't get back home. I'm definitely leaning towards wd-50, but I'd like to hear if others have tried this lunch tasting menu. ← JG weekday lunch is $28 for two plates and $14 for each additional plate. So , it's $56 for 4 plates which is awesome deal with included amuse bouche and mignardises.
  11. Don't have a whole lot to add to my list above from last year. If you have some specific question about were you are staying and how much you may wish to spend I could narrow things down for you. ← JJ Jeffries or Carr's remain at the top of my list. Anither top notch spot is Gibraltor. The are mostly a seafood place so the local angle does not come into as much play, but this may be lancaster's best place. My wife took me there for my birthday the other week and it was outstanding. we also like fenz for a drink and the bar menu. I know some who tout the General Suter Inn in Lititz. I have not been ther in a LONG time so I can't comment. Drive down to Lancaster and I think you will be happy. I'll be staying in Lititz but don't mind to travel for great food. My budget is flexible for 1 great restaurant experience. ← ← We did go to Carr's and we liked very much. We shared oyster stew. It was a very generous portion with very tasty seasoning. They told me it includes some old bay seasoning, tabasco, butter with very plump oysters. We had Grilled Medallions of Beef and daily special of striped bass and finished with cobbler. Overall, very good meal and very good value. Thanks
  12. They increased the price for each additional plate after 2 courses ($28) from $12 to $14 at lunch. There is a very good roasted veal with artichoke dish on the lunch menu. Highly recommended.

    Babbo

Kathryn, thanks for the detailed recommendations. We went to Babbo the night when they lost their Michelin star. From antipasti section, we had grilled octopus, lamb's tongue, daily special of duck bresaola with celery root sformato and salumi. Octopus was very good, cooked perfectly, nicely charred outside and soft and juicy inside. Lamb's tongue was good but I didn't find that much offaly, I was expecting (for some reason) more tongue flavor. I think I did like the most daily special of duck bresaola with celery root sformato. This was very similar to sweet pea sformato I had at Babbo which was included in traditional tasting menu last year. The sformato was topped with granny smith apple and celery shavings and extremely delicious and light. From the primi, we had goose liver ravioli, beef cheek ravioli, pappardelle bolognese and pumpkin lune with sage and amaretto. I did like most goose liver ravioli. I did mop the remaining balsamic and butter sauce to make sure the plate was clean and shiny. Beef cheek ravioli was good but did not find quite good and original as goose liver ravioli. Pappardelle and pumpkin lune were very solid. We did skip the secondi and shared cheese platter and "Saffron Panna Cotta with Quince, Pink Peppercorn and Quince Sorbetto" which was very good. Overall, it was a very good meal.

I'll be visiting Babbo tomorrow. The previous and first time I have been to Babbo, I had tasting menu. This time I'd be picking from the menu and look forward to your recommendations for "must-to have dishes". Thanks
