    Dinner 2024

Thank you so much to each of you. I can't decide if I'm dreading it more this time because I know what's coming or what. I'm definitely taking this week to prep. I didn't do much of that the first time and I regretted it. Going back through the dinner thread during the time period of the last surgery it seems like I mostly made the same foods as I always do but added in something that I could eat. I'm going to make something like a lasagna to have for the first day so Ronnie has something and I don't have to cook because I won't feel like it. I mostly survived on wine I think LOL. Ronnie bought some on sale Boar's Head mortadella the other day. No pistachios, just black pepper corns. I didn't want it to go to waste so google to the rescue. Anthony Bourdain's Mortadella Sandwich --I browned the meat like the recipes says but did the rest on the panini maker. And I added some decent sliced cherry tomatoes. For dessert Mae Dawson's Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie a recipe I ran across that @Ann_T posted back in 2019.
  2. I don't remember the price--maybe 2.99/ lb? --nothing majorly cheap. No, the sale price was before St. Pat's.

Beautiful fish, @Ann_T. I need to clean the top of my stove but before I do you've inspired me to fry some up too. Life is once again throwing things at me. Long story short the bone loss that was occurring in my mouth did not benefit from the painful and expensive laser surgery that I got a few years ago and I'm now having to get another tooth pulled and another bone graft. Eventually after it heals for many months I'll be having a post put in and then eventually a tooth. I'm so upset and frustrated I can't even express it. This week I gotta peruse old threads and write down ideas for foods I made back then and was able to eat. So the next several days I'm gonna eat what I won't be able to eat for a while. Arrrrgh!!!!! On to food: SV'd pork tenderloin Bierocks Avocado salad, quesadillas and RG beans Ronnie smoked a chicken. Been craving that. Scalloped potatoes and salad to go with Pepperoni pizza for Pi day Smoked chicken paninis Fried chicken (lotta chicken going on again) Chicken taco salad with stuffed poblanos SV'd papain free corned beef. 24 hrs at 155F @Mmmpompsroasted potatoes and the usual vegetables Reubens Roasted chicken and pasta Venison spaghetti red
  4. Smaller grocery store had CB's on sale--limit of two with $20 additional purchases. Papain free. Decided to SV. Went for 24 hours at 155F. Turned out really good. Went back and bought a couple more for the freezer.
  5. Well I sure wish this had been around when I was in school! Learning how to clean and butcher and cook --invaluable lessons. Thanks for sharing this.
  6. 🤣 We need to come up with a cooler name like Moose Farts...... If I remember right @Kim Shookmade this too and liked it. It's really refreshing on a hot summer day.
  7. This is in the same genre of the mock apple pie ...kinda....but I've made this a lot: https://food52.com/recipes/77731-j-kenji-lopez-alt-s-ten-minute-lime-cracker-pie
  8. It's PI day!!!! Does a galette count?
  9. What an awesome picture of the launch!!! You could win an award!!

@Maison RustiqueI'm thinking of you (((hugs))) @HonkmanBeautiful pork SV'd beef steak, @Mmmpomps's roasted potatoes and tomatoes and green beans done in the IP Turned leftover tomatoes and green beans into veggie noodle soup with ham and Swiss toasties Pepperoni, mushroom and olive SV'd lamb chops Ham and beans with cornbread. Blueberry/strawberry galette for dessert Ronnie said he felt like eating fish for dinner yesterday. I didn't want to fry it....and we just had fish piccata ....I remembered I had some leftover broth from cioppino last time so I rummaged in the freezers. I found mussels, halibut pieces, scallops and squid. I get nervous doing squid. Ronnie doesn't much care for it unless it's fried--and fried well, not fried rubber bands. I ran across a recipe for doing it in the IP. Saute onions and garlic. Add squid (cut into circles) and tentacles (sorry mom--she does not like things with tentacles lol), salt, pepper and a some red Chile flakes. Cook for 4 mins. Add half a jar of my canned tomatoes. High pressure for 22 mins. QR. SO tender. I wasn't going to put it all in the stew, but I did and Ronnie loved it. Garlic cheese toast to go with \\
  11. Wow! I'm having some envy over here. I'm not peopley either so that looks heavenly to me. And, I've never seen lobster in guacamole--tucking that in the back of my mind if I ever get the chance to have it!

My fries were only children and learned how to play by themselves 🤣

I'd love to see pictures of what you have. I do a cottage cheese layer just like you described. Ronnie doesn't care for ricotta cheese so that method works nicely. When you already have the sauce etc. made like you do, putting a lasagna together is much less daunting.

Thank you so much! That dish is absolutely perfect for a lasagna for the two of us. It used to be my Grammy's. A search of the W logo tells me it's a McKee GLASBAKE 1940's+ Westinghouse clear lidded oven-refrigerator dish. There are several listed on EBAY. I don't know if I have ever had, or seen the lid. It's 3 1/2 inches deep and 8 inches long.
