  1. From a tasting panel video, November 2012. In screwcap. Intense, silky, supple tannins and superbly balanced.
  2. From a tasting panel video, November 2012. A lovely, maturing wine that was well received by all. Still with many years left on it.
  3. Tasting panel video, April 2012. A good wine, perhaps drying out a bit but with some great food suggestions from the panel.
  4. Good point Nick, although I believe that very few wine consumers (at least in Australia) care any more for Parkers opinion, at least not on Australian wine anyway. I believe most consumers have found other pastures for their wine opinion grazing.
  5. Hey Mary.. Good topic.. (and nice blog btw).. Two hot topics down here are definitely screwcap vs cork... and good one Dexter.. 100 point scale vs 20 or whatever arbitrary figure you would care to use. Personally I have been toying with a three point system.. 1) Down the throat 2) Down the sink 3) Down the cellar
  6. Tasting panel video, from reviews in April 2012. Initial response from the tasting panel was that it is an excellent wine that is probably just past its peak but will drink wonderfully for quite a few more years.
  7. Tasting panel video, April 2012. An excellent wine from a very good vintage. Well received by everyone. [media=]
  8. Tasting panel video, April 2012. Mixed response from the tasting panel but the majority opinion of this wine was that it is ageing nicely and a very pleasant drink.
  9. Sure... lick a gun barrel after it has been fired and you will get the drift
  10. Went along to the early bird tasting at Magill estate this morning. Very pleasantly suprised at the quality of this Grange from such a difficult vintage. Dark crimson. Nose tight and unyielding but eventually giving up some redcurrent and cherry. On the palate a lovely fruit sweetness, muscular and balanced with good acidity wound around a stiff backbone of gun barrel tannins.
  11. Tasting panel video, April 2012. Initial response from the tasting panel of this wine was that it is not a long term cellaring prospect and in fact it will reach its peak over the next 7 - 10 years.
  12. Video tasting note of the latest release Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage 2009 YouTube Video:
  13. Reviewed by Dr. Nicola Chandler, a 9 year old bottle of this wonderful wine that still has many years left in it.
  14. Reviewed by Dr. Nicola Chandler, a lovely Adelaide Hills pinot made by Brendon Keys of BK Wines. Short succinct video, under 1 minute
  15. Just for a bit of fun. This is not real, just a wish list for these features on Wine Catalog & Inventory software, complete with spider & insect suppression modules.
  16. Under vendors instructions, I put out a call on Twitter and facebook the other week for help tasting through some wine they wished to have evaluated from the cellar. A few people threw themselves on some bottles and popped around to try out some wines and help me iron out bugs in my video making processes. This one is the edited version (under 1 minute) of the 2009 Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Shiraz.
  17. Under vendors instructions, I put out a call on Twitter and facebook the other week for help tasting through some wine they wished to have evaluated from the cellar. A few people threw themselves on some bottles and popped around to try out some wines and help me iron out bugs in my video making processes. This one is the extremely edited version (1 minute) of the 2008 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz from the Barossa, South Australia.
  18. Under vendors instructions, I put out a call on Twitter and facebook last week for help tasting through some wine they wished to have evaluated from the cellar for sale in the next auction. A few people threw themselves into the fray and popped around to try out some wines and help me iron out bugs in my video making processes:
  19. Generous flavors of licorice & stewed plums, with nice mouthfeel and weight, medium length, rounded tannins and a hint of nutmeg on a medium finish. 91 Points
  20. An unusual blend of varietals and vintages, this is a very pleasant wine with a nose of rasberry, cherry and a hint of black pepper. A well balanced wine with good body with flavours of sweet small red fruits, a little plum, some soy; finishing fresh and reasonably long. 90 Points.
  21. Yes it does. As you are probably aware, the vineyard for this wine is in Metropolitan Adelaide, surrounded by housing on all sides and in the past has contributed to many of the early vintages of Penfolds Grange. This wine is the only single vineyard wine in the Penfolds stable.
  22. Complex and well endowed, this excellent shiraz has a rich and vibrant bouquet of sandalwood, sour cherry and a hint of spice with traces of redcurrant. The palate is searingly intense and plush, framed by well integrated buttery oak, with redcurrant coming through very dominant on entry and with layers of chocolate, plum and coffee lingering on the finish. This seemingly youthful shiraz is still quite closed and would benefit from at least 5 more years in the cellar. 94 Points
  23. A powerful and wonderfully balanced shiraz. The palate is chockers with chalky tannins and massive depth of fruit. On entry, searingly intense flavours of ultra fine black fruits, earthy chocolate and a hint of nutmeg, superbly balanced and framed by fine, integrated oak. 96 Points
  24. Yum, I love my sparkling reds. A classic.. it exhibits vibrant aromas of plum, truffles and cherry. The palate fills the mouth with intricate layers of densely packed, juicy cherries and fresh liquorice with a hint of mulberry and mushroom/truffles. Superb length and a lingering finish of blackfruits. (94 Points)
  25. A nose of rich Barossa chocolate with slightly dusty plum and cherry aromas. Long, richly flavoured chocolate and plums flavours with ample mouthfeel it finishes with slightly gamey undertones and a little overcooked, but still a very nice wine. (90 Points)
