  1. So my "brand-new" vintage CG1 sunbeam has finally arrived after 2 months on a slow slow boat........ This is my first waffle iron and as I hope to plate my first ever waffles this weekend, does anyone out there have some (very) basic instructions for this waffle iron? What setting do I use? How do I know when it's the right temperature? How much batter to use? Do I wash the grids after finishing or just wipe down? To oil or not????? Thanks in advance, Vivienne
  2. <I personally prefer the CG-1 - rather than the CGL which has reversable grids.> Thanks for your help..........I've finally got a CG-1 on its slow slow way to Singapore... will post when I make my first waffle Is it okay to clean the cast aluminium with steel wool? I'm really not into the hazardous chemicals (not that you can get carbon-off here anyway).
  3. <<I also have several antique and vintage waffle irons - I collect kitchen electics that are unusual, Art Deco, etc. They all have to be in working condition. I have had a lot of experience with waffle irons and the non-stick are the way to go.>> Andie.....would appreciate your advice/experience!!! I am on the verge of bidding on 2 vintage sunbeam waffle irons on ebay......the CGL and CG1. I am not a collector and really just want something like the black and decker waffler/grill posted, but I am very leary of non-stick finishes. Would these antique irons work well or should I go for a stovetop cast iron one? I have an induction stove, no gas. TIA Vivienne
  4. I did get mine on ebay......but the shipping cost more than the vegomatic and it took 4 months to get here! I'd love to be able to just buy some new(old!) blades off someone and not have to pay to get the whole thing shipped again.......ebay just isn't the same when you live in Singapore!
  5. Does anyone know how and what to sharpen vegomatic blades with? The slicing blades on mine are so blunt that the food just gets stuck/mashed......the wegde cutter works perfectly though!
  6. Has anyone tried using a stovetop waffle iron on an induction stove? I have a serious craving for waffles, but can't find anything that does not have a non-stick coating on the grids......I've looked at the vintage sunbeam electric irons, but I live in Singapore and the 110V would need a step-down transformer (from 220V)... Any ideas?
  7. Does anyone know how to clean burn marks off an induction stove top? I tried seasoning a new carbon steel/iron pan and managed to leave a fantastic burn mark on the stove because of the manufacturer's coating left on the outside of the pan. I've tried scrubbing with a plastic scrubby, scouring powder, vinegar ......any ideas?

    Waffles!

Does anyone know if a cast-iron stovetop waffe iron would work on an induction stove? http://www.lehmans.com/shopping/product/de...&keyword=waffle
  9. So I finally caved in and bought the only round cast-iron griddle I've been able to find around here (it's for my induction stove). The only problem is that all the instructions/packaging etc is in Japanese and I have no idea what it says. I gave it a good scrub with a scouring pad, boiled some water in it for about 10 minutes, let steam dry, then gave it a good coating of coconut oil before putting it in a 300 degree oven. It's been in there for about half an hour now, but I'm a little worried, now that I've been doing a bit of reading while waiting! When I was wiping the oil on with a paper towel, loads of black/brown gunk was coming off on the towel....is this normal?! I'm not sure if it was pre-seasoned or not, the color out of the box was black, not gunmetal gray. This is my first piece of non-enamelled cast iron, so any help would be appreciated! I'm really looking forward to cooking more than 4 2inch-diameter pancakes at a time !! Vivienne
