  1. refreshing news to know that GQ missed quite some really good Bars ...
  2. Probably my mistake, with organic I meant untreated. Here, in Germany those fruits are labeled as 'Bio' (short form of biological, equivalant to organic) No chemical treatment and hence unwaxed. kind regards, G.
  3. Fat Guy and slKinsey are absolutley right. If you havent a dishwasher, do it manualy. There is one way to avoid such complicated, or unsexy, proceedures, though: Fruits of Organic Origin. Point.
  4. The better fruits for cocktailian purpose are of organic origin, especially when twists are needed. One further way to get rid of those glazes is the dishwasher. Give your fruits a tour along with the plates, pots and cutlery; Not sexy, but very efficient. Gonçalo.

    Rob Roy

Single Malts do work on a Rob Roy or a Bobby Burns. Nothing less than Carpano AF, though. Each Whisky needs to be balanced distinctivly with Vermouth. The Islands need almost the double amount of Wine, compared to a Speyside Malt. One good working choice for the Blood And Sand is Laphroaig: 40-50 ml Laphroaig 10y 20 ml Carpano AF 10 ml Boudier Guignolet de Dijon 15 ml Orange (half Orange, quarted and muddled inside the mixing glass) Shaken and double-strained. Enjoy.

    Strega

Strega is an excelent Liquor. It starts somewhere near Galliano, but develops complexity further than Bénédictine twoards Chartreuse; being less herbal spicey but slightly sweeter with hints of liquorice and gentian (?!) I wonder, why Strega hasen't found its way into Vintage Recipe Books. As Katie Loeb mentioned, it works quite well with Espresso. Four sugestions: "Papageno" 5 cl Mozart White Chocolate 1,5 cl Liquore Strega 1-2 cl Wray & Nephew White Overproof Shaken & Strained into chilled Cocktail Glass. Named after the baritone in the "Magic Flute" "Sarasto" 5 cl Cognac 1,5 cl Strega dash Sugar 2-4 cl Espresso Shaken & Strained into chilled Cocktailglass. The Bass of the above Opera. "Witches Brew" 6 cl Hendrick's Gin or Saffron Gin 0,7 cl Liquore Strega dash Luxardo Maraschino dashes TBT Aromatic Bitters Build slowly in an Old Fashioned Glass over Ice Cubes. Generous Mandarine or Orange Twist. A Variation on the (Old Fashioned) Gin Cocktail. Named in recognition for Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" "Saffron Gimlet" 6 cl Saffron Gin 1,5 cl Rose's Lime Cordial 0,7 cl Liquore Strega 3 drops fresh Lime Strired & Strained into chilled Cocktail Glass. Enjoy.
