  1. Actually it is an old Lamborghini, but congrats on recognising the Italian content! At least I get to buy eponymous wine - the Lamborghini Campoleone is often very good. Can't say the same if I owned a Ferrari - what wine would work - Ferrari-Carano, maybe? Naw, not in the same class. The winery was founded by Ferruccio when he retired and is now run by his daughter. Yes, the Sassicaia was lovely, although not as good as the 1979 and 1985. Tonight I get to taste 1966 Bordeaux, but I'm driving the minivan, not the Lambo.... ← yeah... i wasn't quite sure, actually. i tried to enlarge the picture, to no avail-- and let go with my best guess. is that your car? i'll bet it's a beaut. what sort of bordeaux are you trying tonight?
  2. well, i can see why your avatar is a ferrari... hahaha. just kidding, of course. that sassicaia must have been something... as must have the margaux! for me: vertical flight of chateau musar--69, 73, 78, 88, 90, 91, and getting to listen to serge hochar wax poetic about his wine for a couple of hours. what a neat guy. 86 dom. bourillons d'orleans vouvray demi-sec 96 jacquesson avize from magnum 88 pertimali riserva 83 beaucastel 65 dow's porto 73 diamond creek cab 89 DRC 67 d'yquem 2002 von kesselstatt kaseler nies'chen spatlese trocken 90 bert simon auslese (forget the vineyard) 99 la spinetta pin 90 krug those are the ones that make me smile the widest...
  3. 1. August: FIG, Charleston. The Portuguese Fish Stew nearly made me cry. Still makes me smile to think about it. Also, an absolutely sublime frisee aux lardons. 2. August: Citronelle, DC. The Mosaic app is still one of the most creatively plated, exquisitely executed, beautiful dishes I've ever seen. And the trio of chocolate desserts, third part from the left, was like God had made a Kit Kat. 3. August: (I got married in August) The Ocean Room, Kiawah, SC. One of the most indulgent meals, top to bottom, I have ever eaten. 4. November: Jujube, Chapel Hill. Charlie did an all-offal menu for me and my wife, with a concentration on sweetbreads. Wow. I was sweating by the time I got in the car, because my wife doesn't totally groove on offal the way I do, and so I ate hers too. yum yum. 5. December: Jujube, Chapel Hill. Charlie did another tasting menu for me and some of my friends in 'celebration of the winter solstice.' asian fish and chips--yum. grilled crab stuffed calamari... totally righteous. 6. October: My house, Chapel Hill. Roasted fresh pork belly with savoy cabbage, fennel, apples, cider, and sherry. slow and low... served with barnaut '96. pretty proud of myself on that one. 7. February: Palena, DC. Simply gorgeous all around. Eating in the bar is one of the great hidden secrets of dining in DC. 8. April: Central Kitchen, Cambridge, MA. Never had a bad meal there, and this is no exception. One of the best grilled pork chops i've ever had. And that's it for meals that need to be listed. The others just fall into a second tier...

    Champagne Bubbles

Actually, Riedel claims purposefully to makes their bubbly stems with a rough patch at the bottom of the interior crystal to induce better streams of bubbles. Eric ← that, and crystal is rougher textured then glass, too, which is why it's more suitable for wine in general. The rougher texture creates a sort of micro-aeration of the wine, furthering the release of the bouquet.

    Leg of Lamb

What? That might be the most ridiculous generalization i've ever heard. I adore lamb in all forms. Granted, most cooking methods might stem from other culinary traditions, but then, doesn't that hold true for most american cooking?
