  1. I may start making my own pasta. Any recommendations on a pasta maker? Not top of the line but not a cheapy either. I don't have a KA so I can't use their pasta maker. Thank you!
  2. I am thinking of getting a pasta maker but need to make my pasta egg free. Are there any worthwhile recipes for egg free pasta? I just don't know the answer, I am new to the homemade pasta world... Thanks!
  3. Cut it into cubes and use this Souvlaki recipe from AllRecipes.com. This is one of my favorite recipes! So simple but so good. I don't do the whole skewer thing...I just grill the cubed pork. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Souvlaki/Detail.aspx Wanted to add I usually double the marinade but not quite double the oil. Trying to save a few calories!
  4. OK, Alton Brown fans! Tell me about the eggs in cream puffs and if a replacer can be used. I tried with EnerG egg replacer, carbonated water/cornstarch and neither worked. I'm interested in what the eggs do and if they may be able to be replaced. If not, is there a similar "dough" I could use? I really want to have something so I can use that delicious filling! Thanks, Sue
  5. Thanks for the replies! Actually there is no law to label for may contains or manufactured on same lines...it is still voluntary. When I called Pillsbury today after seeing the new "May contains" statement, the rep told me nothing has changed with the formula or process. Pillsbury has just started labeling for may contains. I had used a box of Softasilk before with no problems but it is different when it is in black and white on the box. And to top it off, Pillsbury does not differentiate whether the cake flour is just in a plant that has eggs or if it is on the same machine. The plant I would be OK with but not the same equipment. I will look into the King Arthur's. Thanks! Sue
  6. I think I had the heat too hot and now there is a haze in my saute pan. The All-Clad site recommends a product called Bar Keeper’s Friend. Anybody use this or could tell me another method?
  7. Anybody make homemade cake flour? I'm finding on the web it is AP flour, cornstarch and baking powder. Some of the measurements on the web are different and so is to sift/not sift. The Softasilk cake flour now says may contain egg which my son can't eat. Thanks! Sue
  8. This is an older thread but I thought I would add some info for people visiting Baltimore in the future. I've been here all my life so I know some of the good places. For awesome crabcakes that are huge and have hardly any filler, G & M restaurant in Linthicum is the place. It is not far from BWI airport for reference. They even ship their crabcakes now! http://www.gandmcrabcakes.com/ We usually go here at least once a month. For Indian I like the Akbar restaraunt. Two locations. http://www.akbar-restaurant.com/ And Samos was mentioned too. It is in Greektown which is 5 miles? from the Harbor. It is very casual and almost carryout-like. http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=&rls=G...&ct=result&cd=1 The best crabs are at Gaffney's in Highlandtown! It is not an eat-in place though. Just a place to pick up the crabs and take with you. Delicious! I've never gotten bad crabs from here in 20+ years! It is about 3 miles? from the Harbor (and before Greektown) off Eastern Ave. http://cityguide.aol.com/baltimore/restaur...fin/v-102395679 Enjoy!!!
  9. Hi everyone! This is my first post here! I am looking for an eggless cake or cake that uses an egg replacer, such as Ener-G. My son is allergic to eggs, amongst other things, and I really need to find a great cake. It doesn't matter if it is a white or chocolate cake or any other flavor. I just need to find some great recipes! The ones I have tried are a little lacking. Other than the Wacky cake which is pretty tasty. I am a home baker and not a professional so you may want to keep that in mind. I am also planning on using a Wilton cake pan, if that matters. (does that show just what a novice I am??? ) Thanks!!! Sue
