It was a cold and chilly day today and perfect for:
Fish Sinigang Soup*
I used bangus (milkfish) and added taro root, okra, eggplant and kangkong (water spinach). Eaten with lotsa rice and fish sauce.
*Maybe I should also post this in the fish heads thread.

Milgwimper - I'm bouncing off the walls with glee! Any kind and anything!!!! I love german sausages! How about I send you some canned silkworm larvae? Bai-top snails? Or a stoneware pot? And it is a definitely a yukkhwe date for you and me (and Peter and Yoonhi should they be here, too).

I currently don't have a shopping list but I'll post a list of ingredients that I needed for my peach cobbler.
For my kitchen notebook, I use this:
And here's a sample of what's inside...

Anna - one person who I know does this is my Mom. She plans our meals (when I was single and still living with them) with what she brought from the wet market (and combined with what's in the fridge). She would go to the market almost everyday and the day's meals are based on what was currently available (the freshest or things in season). It may be fresh crabs, manila clams, oysters. freshly slaughter pig's organs, etc. I guess my mom was the original foodie and I got my foodie genes from her.

No problem, Anna! Jotting down "Oakville, Ontario, Canada" and looks up to ask '...And your street name and house number is?'
If I could afford a ticket to Canada now, I'd be knocking at your door with a big spoon in my hand.

I really enjoyed reading this thread and about your description/reversal of the corn smut (don't know how to spell it).
-
Milgwimper - if you send me a care packages of german sausages, I'll send you any korean food/product that you want. More canned perilla, perhaps? How about dried anchovies? I bet I can mail kimchi to you.
Peter - I adore yukkhwe!
It makes my husband shudder everytime I eat raw beef but nothing taste better (well maybe my rare terderloin steak). Those pink rice cakes are so pretty! I think I'd rather look at them and not eat.
Today we went to the Seoul International Toy Exhibit in COEX mall. You guessed it, hundreds of cubic feet of toy booths. Billy was in hog heaven while I got dragged to every toy display in the exhibit. Now I am massaging my poor, tender aching feet.
Oh, Billy had pepperoni pizza at Sbarro's while I had Beef Pho noodles at Pho Tai (which unfortunately sounds like the sleazy nickname for the female part in the Philippines).

Beautiful rolls Anna!
Now, will you kindly FEDEX half a dish to Korea for me?
-
Milgwimper - thank you (for the nice compliment)!
Would you like some perilla seeds? I bet I can find them here in my tiny agricultural town of Janghowon and it'll be no cinch to mail them to you.

Oh I do that too, Lilija. I love garlic but hate all the peeling and the pounding and the mincing. I love minced garlic in a jar. So quick and efficient for a lazybones like me.

Thank you for the very informative blog. I have spent hours yesterday researching on La Malinche and her influence/story on Mexican history and culture. Maraming salamat!

I found the name!
Bunggeo-pang
Bunggeo means goldfish and it's the shape of the mold where the batter is poured. Then it it filled with red bean paste and is a favorite Autumn and Winter snack all over Korea. I'll take a couple of pics of it later.
And I found a very informative link with pictures of it on: Korean Winter Food - Bunggeopang

Sheena, it's def. cold and def. time for the fish stuffed with red bean. I'll take pics of it later for you. Hoddeok is always available all year round.
Peter - great pics!
Thanks for the glowing description of moi and my Billy. *blush* Hubby was appeased with the pictures you posted of the food. He was so disappointed I didn't take pics of our meal (I said you had a better camera and I was enjoying eating so much).
I have converted my hubby to the first step of becoming an eGullet foodie. Now to get him to post and read in here.

Ditto on the food pics. PLEASE POST! (pretty please, with a cherry on top)

Psst, Peter, where we met you was in Icheon city, not Incheon (where the international airport is). Just a head's up.
And if it is not confusing enough, it is also spelled Ichon. And it is also a name of a subway stop in Seoul.

Today's breakfast is very Filipino.
Fried Longganisa, Garlic Fried Rice with Salted Egg salad

Peter, just a heads up. The World Exposition on Toys is now being exhibited in COEX Exhibition hall (on top of COEX mall). Maybe you'd like to bring Serena there too. The exhibition ends on Sunday. Billy and I will be going there with my Ubekhistan friend Oksana with her son on Saturday. We might eat at Jackie Chan's restaurant for lunch.

Angeljolie - Mabuti!
I used lard and butter in my empanada dough. It was a hit with hubby that he asked for more menudo empanadas tonight. I'll post pics of how I made my dough and the insides of the empanada later. Mabuhay!

Peter, at the rate that you are eating I am really surprised you're not as big as Santa Claus. Tell me how do you do it????

I bought a bag of apples at the street market and found out that although they were crisp, they lack sweetness and flavour. So, I did the next best thing...
Apple Pie
-
I got in a baking mood today and made some Menudo Empanadas.
And dessert was hubby's favorite (and downfall) - Apple Pie.
Billy enjoying his pie.

PMS mood made me fix Oyster Omelet today. Here's my brekkie ...
-
Sheena - when you do get to Korea, I promise to serve you a full-size baguette of Oyster Po Boy sandwiches.
-
Nakji - I think it took me a minute and a half to inhale it down.
Kim Shook - I made a bigger sandwich today. And made extra crispy oysters on the side to pop in my mouth while munching on my sandwich. It was gooooood!
Why does anybody buy . . .

PLK, ditto on the peanut butter with jelly stripes. I for one only want the peanut butter, only hubby and youngest son likes PB&J sandwiches.
