  1. To make her soups smooth, I think Betty would need to line her chinois with cheese cloth to get the desired consistency. Anyway, I agree with Tom that roasted red peppers and roasted beets don't sound good together.
  2. Taqueria Vallarta Jalisco also has lengua (tongue). Here is a mini-review from the Chronicle, although it is about five years old: Chronicle review I like the fact that every time I eat there with my Chinese-American SO, I am usually the only gringa there.
  3. Rudy's might do the trick for my mom on the way to shop. Has anyone tried Biga on the Banks? I read reasonably good things about it elsewhere. I also heard Liberty Bar was worth checking out for a casual experience. Any details would be appreciated.
  4. Taqueria Vallarta Jalisco, on E. Riverside, (I think the cross street is Lakeshore blvd.), is open until 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 a.m., depending on the day of the week. The food there is solid and inexpensive Tex-Mex, and their cilantro-y salsa is great. The servers probably won't speak English, but menu items are numbered for ease of ordering. They also have a drive-through window. It's a hole-in-the-wall type of place, but if you're in the mood for that kind of food, you will probably leave satisfied.
  5. Pamjsa, I would imagine they are going to be close to downtown, as my dad is going to a conference. I plan on driving down and taking my mom to the outlet malls in San Marcos, and then bringing her back to San Antonio for dinner with my dad. I may come back the next day depending on work. Thanks for the recommendations; the restaurants I've been to on the Riverwalk have been mediocre at best. Also, is there any good barbeque in San Antonio? My mom likes good ribs.
  6. My parents will be visiting San Antonio at the end of January. I live in Austin, and the only restaurants I've visited in San Antonio have been pretty bad. Any recommendations? My parents live in Minnesota, so reasonably priced Tex-Mex or Mexican would be especially appreciated.
  7. I don't see why Frank got so thrown by the elimination challenge--he had the ingredients for a fritatta or an omelette, both of which would have looked better than his scrambled mess. He could have finished the top of the fritatta by inverting it onto a plate and putting it back into the pan. Not that I was sorry to see him go or anything . . .
