  1. I went to zocalo recently with my boyfriend, who reviews food for www.beyondrobson.com http://beyondrobson.com/restaurants/2007/1...ort_on_flavour/ Our experience was very sub-par, coming from both a carnivore and a vegetarian. I guess the article speaks for itself.
  2. You could possibly soak TVP until it has reached softness, pureé in a food processor with the added spices, roll flat and thin and then bake it until it's reached its desired thinness/crispiness. I've never done this because bacon isn't something I'm too keen on simulating, but from a veg perspective, it sounds like it could work. I've worked with TVP before and I think you could get, at the very least, a very interesting looking result
  3. I'd like to take my boyfriend to So.Cial sometime this coming weekend because he's been talking lots of good graces, but I'm wondering if there are any good options there for a strict vegetarian (I eat cheese, milk, egg but no fish). I'm not a picky eater, but meat is definitely out. Options for the boyfriend are of no concern because he'll eat anything and most certainly enjoy it!
  4. I searched through the thread but couldn't find any appropriate replies. Does anyone know where I should look to find fresh buffalo mozzarella? :] I'm considering checking out the Les amis du fromage shop on Burrard since I love the service there, and never thought to ask- but if anyone has a better suggestion I'd love to hear it! Cheers
  5. Locus, on Main. Had the pesto linguine, very good! This morning, the lion's den $3.50 eggs-and-potaters breakfast. Then, Tsunami sushies for dinner. Yum :9
  6. dutch girl chocolates on the drive (near venables) is awesome! afaik, all of the chocolates are made there :]
  7. could someone please un-break my heart and promise me that wink (at 8th and main) is not closing? i heard a rumour that it was going to shut down. :[
  8. Salt was a very pleasant experience for me and my dining partner :] We arrived last night 'round 6:30, it had just begun to get busy. My partner and I sat at the 'bar' and had a prime location for watching the team at work, making it all the more enjoyable because we both like to observe. We selected a mish-mash of meat and two cheeses to share a single plate, I can't quite remember everything we ordered but I recall that the honeycomb was amazing. Out of nowhere we spied two chocolate mousse being plated, and my partner just had to try. How rich! It was decadent, a great compliment to our meal. The service was good. I believe our waitress was named Lara, and she did a very good job of making our evening pleasant. My dining partner wants to have another go next weekend. I'm definitely up for it!
