  1. I like the dim sum at Zen (Pacific Place) myself although I have been told the standards have dropped over the years. My favourite is the siu long pau.
  2. I come from Singapore and live in Hong Kong and frequent both airports both often and I have to say the food in both are terrible............The Hawker Centre in the Singapore Terminal 2 airport is acceptable (although I have not been there in quite a while). I suggest eat before going to either airport.
  3. I've really enjoyed the Bangkok airport canteen. It is tucked in a little corner and I think mainly the local staff go there. The food is cheap (relatively) and (I think) pretty authentic. I always have the tom yum koong (with lots of tissue)
  4. My favourite Yong Tau Foo place is a small stall at the junction of Balestier Road and Prom Road. I have eaten the lady's yong tau foo for more than 20 years. I live overseas now, but still grab a chance to get some yong tau foo everytime I go back. Unfortunately I think many children do not want to learn the trade of making traditional foods and sauces, finding more financially lucrative jobs elsewhere. This is the greatest tragedy for foodies.
  5. Are you talking about Q in Quarry Bay? I was their pastry chef when they opened. It's long gone - about two years ago it changed to Cafe Einstein and right now, they're closed because of renovations. I don't know if they're re-opening with a new name and concept or it will still be Cafe Einstein. ← The Q I knew was in Wan Chai and sold wonderful szechuan food. I am not too sure about pastries although I remember them having some sort of deep fried yam ball.
  6. (4) In PattayaThey have giant prawns up there the size of dinner plates. They serve it on rice and you pull the head out, scoop all the good stuff from the head into the rice, cut up the meat, put the 4 condiments and yum!I am off to Pattaya and staying at the Dusit resort for 3 days. Any recommendations on where and what to eat? Thanks.

    Beijing dining

I was in Beijing maybe 2 years ago I was not too impressed with the food, although I think it was because I didn't know where to go. I did try the Quanjude duck but my impression was that the Hong Kong version was better.
  8. I was in France less than a month ago. As a Chinese with a not-so-big appetite, it seemed the most natural thing to share the food. This was greeted with mild amusement at best to downright disapproval by the French restauranteurs. Interestingly enough a Frenchman I know was asked in Hong Kong if he would like to share his food, and he was utterly amazed at the prospect. I think its time we learn to accept different cultures and customs.
