  1. Recently took a bread making course, Instructor really favored perforated baking trays. ( with holes in it) Does anybody know where to find these in Vancouver? Ming Wo and Gormet Wh Hs, do not stock them. - I was thinking of trying Russel Foods. According to our instructor it produces much better bread at home because of more even heat distribution.
  2. I am intersted in the basic art of cheese making. I am curious if there are ever any local courses or workshops. I have seen some on the web, offered in the past at UBC Farm. But nothing comes up. I know that several books do exhist. there must be somebody who offers it. some artisanal farm or producer. any help would be greatly apprciated. tks

    Red Olives

I bought red olives this weekend at granville isle mkt. I was wandering if they are naturally that color or are they died some how. I was under the impression that olives started out green, then turned to black, depending on how long they are left to ripen. any body know about red olives??
  4. Does anybody know where one can find Hokkien Noodles in Vancouver? Also, what exactly are they? They appear to be a fresh egg noodle of some sort, like a yellow Shanghai noodle. I have come across it in a cook book. Sometimes certain English speaking countries ( ie Australia) use different names for things. Curious~! thankyou
  5. Thanks a lot for all the great feed back, extremely grateful for the info, will be heading to Kingsway area tomorrow. Definitely going to try both brands of coffee and I did happen to bring back some coffee from Highlands Coffee, which is like Starbucks in Vietnam. ( for a comparison) I never knew Vietnam was a world player in the coffee mkt. Number 2 producer in the world behind Brazil. Vietnam is not the first place most people associate coffee with. Learn something new every day. Also have to say, In Hanoi I tasted some of the best baguettes in my life there. mikei
  6. I just got back from Vietnam. Love the coffee culture there, totally unique to asia. I was extremely shocked and impressed at their love and devotion for coffee. Which is not to typical in my other Asian Travels. Being a coffee addict, I fell in love with their unique coffee culture. I would like to know where in Vancouver one can buy authentic vietnamese coffee, and the condensed milk that they use. I know our canned milk is similiar, but theirs seems to be extremely thick and sweet. Also, where can i go for a good Vietnamese coffee, I have had one at Phen Non Penn. ( excuse spelling). But where else in Vancouver and a good one be found, (maybe possibly to go with a good bowl of Pho) Tks Mike I.
  7. I was wandering where one could buy a tagine in Vancouver. I am not interested in French enamel ware or All Clad, i want an authentic Moroccan made earth ware Tagine. I see that the gourmet warehouse has one for $60, its made it Spain. Is there perhaps a middle eastern or Moroccan food supply shop that would have tagines, and middle eastern food supplies in Vancouver?
