  1. Having trouble finding something open for dinner on Jan. 1, 2009. Hoping for something convenient from Central Park. Closed: Eleven Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern, Daniel, Le Bernadin, Modern, Jean Gorges, Per Se.... Help!
  2. Coming to New York for the first time in my life and want to make the most of it. I want to visit smaller independent interesting restaurant/bars. Trailblazing gutsy and fun. Don't want to hit the Daniel price points but want the great grit of where the locals go and design/menu wise hot stuff...what's interesting...hit me with everything you've got. I want to hit many places with trying a few bites at the bar to avoid booking resos too heavy.I'm there Dec.21 - Jan3.09. Let me know your thoughts!!
  3. Does anyone remember One Restaurant in Gastown? I keep running into people telling me a crazy story about those guys fleeing their defunct restaurant after cutting and sawing ALL the electrical, plumbing, ducting and gas lines. Does anyone know the truth to this insane urban myth?
  4. your so serious and "point of solemn" need to be balanced by the FOH ... also my complaint at the Pear Tree. ...consistently firing on all cylinders from the kitchen, a great reno'd room and solid wine list could all benefit from more friendly (even humorous) interaction from FOH to balance the perfect stoic of the package. If Stephanie found that magic ingredient ( on and off the court ) The Pear Tree deserve and SHOULD win restaurant of the year regardless of the local. They have the strength in delivery in a gutsy location before anyone else had the balls to do so...with Vancouver's shortest menu that says " this is what we do ...take it or leave it." Balls.
  5. What about Lombardo's on commercial at 1st . Great pizza, cheap spagetti and meatballs and crappy chianti. Perfect! and it's in a weird mall when all the stores are closed around it. Surreal and fun. Presto Panini on Thurlow @ Robson for lunch....cheap and honest. Go to Frederico's Supper Club also on Commercial and 1st. The food is actually great and the room is awesome. Full big band Fri / Sat. also surreal and fun.
  6. One of Vancouver's best kept secrets is The William Tell on Sunday nights. Between 5:30 and 8:00 pm they have a killer all-you-can-eat buffet for $34.50 (raclette anyone?). It's a steal for the quality. Sutton Place has a good brunch buffet on Sundays as well (and konig ludwig on tap) .....make a day of it ...Sunday is the new all you can eat day
