  1. Oooooh...thanks for reminding me I have an episode waiting on my Tivo! Now I can't wait. I heart that show. And as yummy as the falafel looks, it's the zucchini that really blew my mind. I wish I could get good zucchini in the middle of winter out here in Ohio. As for breakfast, does oven-roasting the bacon dry it out a lot? It certainly seems more convenient.
  2. Two Del Mar faves are The Brigantine (GREAT fish tacos) and Pamplemousse (high end california french fusion--try the creme brulee trio for dessert!). And the best Mexican food I had there was at Fidel's, which is in this weird, residential area called the EG. If you can find it, it's good. And if you're not from some other California town where they already exist, I'd suggest a lunch at In-N-Out Burger--truly a fast food revelation. Ask for your burger Animal Style, and they'll add onions sauteed in mustard. Yum!
  3. Dan has nobly volunteered to get a double double tomorrow. Talk about self sacrifice! And anyone who would like to help paint or tile is more than welcome at any time - I promise both food and drink and even free entertainment in the form of small children. ← I envy your spice selection, Tejon--in Small Town, Ohio, I'm lucky to find sea salt at the grocery store, much less sumac. Can I request Animal Style on the In-N-Out burger? I wish they WOULD become a big burger chain, extending all the way to the midwest!
  4. Because these are so similar to Vanillakipfel I suspect that they would last a long time (at least 3 weeks). We always make Vanillakipfel at least a week before eating them to mellow the flavor and develop the texture. ← My Greek mother-in-law makes kourambiedes every Christmas to give as gifts, and not only does she dust hers with powdered sugar, as soon as they come out of the oven, she packs them in powdered sugar in little gift tins. They last an unbelievably long time, supposedly because the powdered sugar is so fine that it keeps out any air. The reasoning may be a family myth, but I can tell you, I've opened a tin of her Christmas cookies the following July, and they're still perfect.
