  1. For breakfast, I strongly recommend Palm BEach Bagel & Bakery, which is on Clint Moore in the Resort Shopping Center (by 441). Its a family owned business where the waitresses do remember you. Very homey. A lovely little establishment. If you don't mind driving a bit, in Delray there is a great authentic Greek restaurant on Atlantic called Tasos. Prices are reasonable and food is GOOD! Do call for their hours. They close for 2 to 3 hours in between lunch and dinner shifts. If you want ribs & barbeque, head for Mississipi Sweets on Federal Highway. Its in a small non descript strip mall on the west side of the road. Delicious food. Next door to it is a nice french restaurant. I haven't eaten there in years but it was good last time I went. The prices are high, but reduced a bit if you go during early bird hours.
  2. How do you want us to send you pictures? What exactly are you looking for? Interiors? Exteriors? "Character" shots of the places we're recommending? Adjectives help. Thanks.
  3. Hello Chris, Congratulations to you, who seems to be a real person who happens to like food. Really nice to hear the Food Network is giving you this oppurtunity. I'm a Miami local and am offering my services. The places I can recommend are definately places locals go to, certainly not touristy at all. But they are pretty usually busy and loved by their clients. Hope that's a help. S & S Restaurant, 1757 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, 33132 1930s diner around a U-shaped counter. Just listed on the National Register of Historic places last year. Picnics This little diner just moved out of Allen's Drugs last fall. They are in a new location a little further west on SW 40th St. The food is still good and the same waitresses are still there. I will happily volunteer more. Best wishes to you on this journey in search of great food.
  4. El Rinconcito Colombiano. I have only had the takeout from the bakery section in the back, but its soo good. The restaurant is located a block east of "Gino's" and "Mimi's Ravioli" on Johnson Street by 57 Ave , west of I-95. The place is always full with locals, which is a great sign. My Colombian cousins know of another Colombian place on Hallandale Beach Blvd. I will inquire about the name and report back.
  5. Regarding meat, I strongly recommend you go west to "Gino's, the King of Meats" Italian market on Johnson, west of 95. I've been told Gino's has a deal in which you get two of various types of meats. It may be a great economical way to stock up you r meat needs for a while. Across the street is Mimi's Ravioli, which makes fresh pasta, bread & bakery items and other great italian wares. I've been to Doris' Italian market. This store is rather small compared to the other store I've been to. Still had some nice hard to find things, even though some items have limited selection. I know there is another Doris' waaay further west on Pines Blvd. There may be no need to go that far since you have three italian markets in Hollywood. Call Gino's and Doris' to confirm what they have for seafood. I recall both of them having fresh seafood, just like Laurenzo's down in North Miami Beach. Regarding produce, I just heard about this place in Hallandale called Big Irv's Farmer's market, located on Federal Hwy. The review was from a trusted friend that liked the quality of produce and what he felt were good prices. There is supposed to be a Hollywood sanctioned Organic Green Market (Josh's Organic Garden) every Sunday on Harrison Street and the Hollywood Broadwalk. I haven't been but am curious to hear a review. Sundays from 9 am to 5:30 PM. Do call (954) 456-3276 to see if what their summer schedule will be like. Best of luck in your search. Wish I could recommend a Cuban place. I know of a few good Colombian places. Do let me know if that grabs your interest.
  6. You could order from Hi Time Wine for yourself, thus bypassing having to purchase a case. Lemon Hart is impossible to find in the retail real, leaving us no choice than to order from California. I have gotten lucky and caught Lemon Hart on sale on this site, thus shaving off a few dollars to go to shipping costs.
  7. Hello, I'm new to the Ministry. Love the wide variety of opinions present. Keep it up! I've recently acquired a few bottles of some inexpensive botteles of anejo rum from Central and South America, which include: Ron Centenario Anejo Especial (Costa Rica) Ron Abuelo (Panama) Santa Theresa Ron Anejo (Venezuela) I know an anejo is a blended rum, a facination concept to me. I tried tasting them straight and found 2 of the three harsh on the palette. They don't seem to be meant for sipping. So much for a tasting party. If these bottles or other anejo bottles ended up in your lap to keep, what would you do with them? How would you intially taste it and decide how to best compliment it? What would you optimally decide to mix it with, if you went that route? Thanks for any and all opinions.
  8. Hello. I'm brand new to the forum but have taken up tasting rum in the last year. So far, the biggest dissapointment in tasting rum has been one made Ron Pampero, given to me by a fellow who worked a trade show.. I belive it was was Ron Pampero Especial. Definately not Pampero Deluxe or Anniversario. Just tasted way too overproofed. Not a sipping rum at all, which was a dissapointment since I've heard so much praise over its sibling, Ron Pampero Anniversario. It didn't even mix well, which I tried to save it after it failed the straight up and with water test. So, if anyone in South Florid wants a newly cracked open bottle of mysterious Pampero, its yours. I agree with everyone about Capt. Morgan and Bacardi. Now that I have been educated on finer rums, to have any of that stuff is like going from a fine wine to Mad Dog 20/20. Just too harsh. I did one have the luxury of smelling the cork of a Bacardi bottle from the pre-Castro years. It was quite lovely. I truly do believe now that Bacardi isn't the same upon being transplanted to another island with different soil. It may have once been Fine, but it is definately a shadow of its former self.
