  1. It looks like Humble bundle has some quarto cookbooks up for grabs. It's $25 to get all 39. You get certain books depending on how much you donate. I think a dollar gets you 5 books and you get more books if you donate more etc. You get to see which books are listed as you select the amount you want to donate. It's less than a dollar a book! Making wine from a kit?

I saw that too!! They claim you can make keto friendly wine with only 1g of sugar.... so so so many doubts. LOL.
  4. Has anyone here tried making their own wine from a kit? I've been getting inundated with ads from brewsy (https://getbrewsy.com) and it looks interesting. Not sure if what they make is actually wine though? Google searches for it came up with ppl using it with mountain dew etc too! Just wondering if anyone here has tried it or anything like it with successful results.
  5. I've wanted an Anova but price has been steep... Ordered a Tovala as their memorial day sale was pretty attractive. $149 price point with a promise to purchase 6 weeks of meal kits within 6 months. Haven't seen any reviews etc on here so I've resorted to the fb grp, reddit etc and since they were mostly positive, grabbed one. Hopefully it lives up to its hype.
  6. I have seen some people start seeds in the instant pot with the yogurt function successfully. Maybe that's worth a shot? Good luck!
  7. Breville Smart Oven Air- ASIN B01N5UPTZS Sorry, the link isn't inserting. Amazon has it for 23% Off...($308.95) I just pulled the trigger and got one. Even though I just got the Cuisinart Air Fryer Oven on BF... LOL. Host's note: here's the Amazon link: Breville Smart Oven Air (I have no idea why it wouldn't go up in the top line.)
  8. That looks amazing. Would you care to share or link the recipe pretty please?
  9. What about something like this? BUNN MCU Single Cup Multi-Use Home Coffee Brewer It brews kcups, pods or just plain ground coffee. Reviews seem to be really good.

    Onion Confit

Onions are cheap right now... $0.39/lb for yellow onions. So guess what's cooking? The whole apartment SMELLS of onions... 6 large yellow onions 1/2 cup butter 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 tsp brown sugar 1 tsp of beef base. Splash of pinot gris Now the waiting begins...

    Onion Confit

I made it in my sanyo rice cooker (which has a slow cooker function) and it worked well. Took about 12 hrs from start to finish and it smells soooo good! There's no high/low setting though so its either on high or on warm so I just set it on high for a few hrs, let it warm for a few and then high for a few etc until I was satisfied.
  16. This sounds really weird but if I want/need ginger for like a quick stir fry or dish where ginger is just an accent and not the dominant flavor, I just grab Gari. Yes. The pickled ginger that sushi places serve. I get a jar of that for around $3 at the asian supermarkets and it lasts forever. The sweet vinegary brine that it sits in doesn't affect the flavor of whatever I'm cooking (so far), and all I have to do is grab a few slivers (or more) and decide whether to use it whole, or julienne it since its already sliced up for me. It is always in the fridge, fast, easy, no waste, and... Did I mention it lasts forever? If i want to use regular ginger (not that often now though), I peel it using an oxo vegetable peeler and then slice/chop/mince with a chinese cleaver. Works well.
  17. Found this gadget while randomly surfing~ http://www.japantrendshop.com/ame-wataame-...aker-p-195.html REALLY expensive, but if it works... Kinda cool to think what the cotton candy would taste like with different candy and if you could mix different candy!
  18. Is it bad that I'm checking this thread a few times a day? I can't wait!! Looking forward to the blog~
  19. I like getting bottles (they have quite a few kinds!) at http://www.specialtybottle.com/ And the labels I got once from http://www.myownlabels.com/ was really good quality and came quite fast after ordering too. Hope this helps.
  20. Re: Vegemite ban - http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/vegemite.asp Can always get it online if the local stores don't have it. http://www.britishdelights.com/prod_S281.htm -This is just one of the online e-tailers that sell it... can probably find it cheap(er) elsewhere too. There's also marmite ( http://www.amazon.com/Marmite-125g/dp/B000...89821217&sr=8-1 ) or bovril ( http://www.amazon.com/Bovril-125g/dp/B000B...89821217&sr=8-1 ) Bovril is beef flavored though.
  21. Me and Husband bought one to try it a couple weeks ago... We didn't really like it- a little too sweet and a bit odd. But lol, we both agreed it tasted like liquid skittles (taste the rainbow!!).

    Pickles--Cook-Off 32

Made the Everyday Daikon and Carrot Pickle from "Into the Vietnamese Kitchen". It goes awesome in summer rolls, cold noodles etc. Its even good as an acompaniment to hot savory stuff like fish sauce wings/lemongrass beef etc. The pickles are slightly sweet and tart. And not to mention, pretty easy to make with a mandoline & basic household ingredients. Hubby was kinda amused that I had to "massage" the daikon and carrots for a few minutes though.
  23. Flaky Apple Turnovers Made these today... Made half a recipe and came out with like 12 baby ones, and 3 bigger(normal sized?) ones. LOL. They are soooooooo good!! I normally don't eat a lot of the sweet stuff I bake (I'm more of a savory person) but.. I've eaten 2 already!
