  1. I recently had a doughnut from Sullivan Street Bakery on 47th and it was ridiculously good.. Tasted eggy, yeasty, with powdered sugar and a vanilla cream... My mother, who is P-Dutch, told me it reminded her of the doughnuts she had as a child.. Fresh out of the fryer..

Before you get to excited the doughnut was 2.90 a piece and small.. But it was probably the best doughnut I have had in recent memory..

are you referring to their bomboloni?

I am pretty sure thats what they call it.. Going this Saturday, will take a photo.. Have you had it? What are your thoughts?

its good, but not as good as ours  . i think its a bit pricey for what it is and who knows how long they let it sit out...

  3. I'm a little bit disappointed with MSB. Called them today to inquire about getting the bo ssam for takeout. Apparently, they've increased the price again, this time to $200? Can anyone confirm? Then, (this is what shocked me) the person on the phone told me that they would have to charge $250 if I wanted the bo ssam to go (which does not include oysters). Now, I have no problem paying more if there are increased costs or whatnot but come on, $50 upcharge for no apparent reason at all?? They're making more money (and have less hassle) for takeout than if I brought my party to dine in.

  4. awkward indeed, but not unusual at all. i've been many times for lunch (and the restaurant is usually empty) and that happens a lot.

had the white chocolate dessert last time as well, thought it was ok but wasn't blown away by it

  5. indeed. i went for lunch today and saw they had posted it on a chalkboard, but there was no mention on the website when i was looking at the menu.

btw, moist brisket still as good as every other time. pork ribs... not so much.

  6. WHEN I do go out, my haunts are Shimizu in Midtown West, Esashi in the East Village, Seki on the UES, Yasuda, Sushiden, or Hatsuhana in Midtown East, and a big ups to Ushiwakamaru west of EV.

I'm glad you were finally able to get to Shimizu.

  7. WOW!  A lot of these sound perfect and I am writing them up to forward to the members of my party - -  one of whom suggested that we consider a place called Celeste at Amsterdam and 84th (and cab up after dinner) - does anybody have any experience or thoughts on Celeste?

(Yes, it was Alouette that we went to last year, and don't want to return to.)

Celeste is excellent and very well priced.

  8. Dessert like petits fours or real dessert?

What are some of the entree choices?

Real dessert, as I had already posted above.

For the entree choices, they have a variety of dishes from the a la carte dinner menu - Carolina spiced shrimp, rice flaked tuna, grilled artic char, beef tenderloin, bluefin tuna burger, veal payard, etc. The beef tenderloin is very similar to the dish at JG

  9. Just had a great lunch at Perry Street. The dining room was virtually empty though, which I found very odd for a Friday lunch.

In any case, they've structured their lunch menu just like Jean Georges now, but at a lower price point. $24 for 2 courses + dessert from a list, $12 each additional course, plus an assortment of house-made sodas. The food was excellent - had a bluefin tuna burger and veal payard. For dessert, goat cheese cheesecake with concord grape sorbet.
