  1. As I was watching the Nambia episode I kept wondering if his good friend from Uzbekistan was watching it and laughing hysterically with that evil laugh! Or maybe he had something to do with the stops you made? Very interesting and thought provoking. Best wishes, Melinda
  2. I liked part II of the India episode because it went off the beated path a bit, even though the first part was colorful and captured some good images it seemed a bit touristy. And Korea was good overall but at times seemed to drag and become repetitive. My favorite is still the Texas/Mexico border. Look forward to the shows ahead.
  3. This was an amazing show Mexico/Texas border! Well filmed, edited and creatively put together, even the music touches, just good story period! I just loved it. I am surprised about the complaints though, we know its a personal point of view, and we already know its edgy, griddy by nature of the author, yet honest, for that reason one should know well enough to leave it alone. And just look at the artistry alone its really got it all going on! And night and day from the Sweden episode!
  4. Uzbekistan - Interesting, enlightening of a different culture, also hysterical mainly because it seemed Anthony’s friend usually got him in these uncomfortable and embarrassing situations. He certainly had his way with tony and that massage that no else had. Oouch I can still hear that cracking noise. And how about the wedding where he was pushed into dancing even though he didn’t want to. Or how about those organ meats sweating in the hot sun. I hope there were plenty of antibiotics and perhaps typhoid shot before the trip. It was good storytelling and held your attention also with all the conflict going on. Too bad it seemed that the host seemed to suffer quite a bit here. Iceland- I think it was classic like a good Seinfeld episode. It was edited and narrated very well and it showed a slice of life that was different that what you would expect. And what was introduced was a bunch of memorable characters. Of course there were some uncomfortable moments in here as well, a complete massage and a bath of mud by a woman who looked like she could bench press a small house. Yet the best part was the festival where it looked like a bad wedding that few attended and the wonderful and perfectly revolting meats that one can only gag at the contents, texture the smell. Unfortunately it looks like there was some more suffering by the host. Vietnam- Of course you can see the love behind this show. Just everything worked here. Lots of twists and turns and you can’t go wrong with such an interesting and beautiful location. But there was one uncomfortable dance scene that made this a familiar theme of embarrassment to the host but funny none the less. Miami- was colorful lots of variety and interesting mix of characters. I loved that crusty Alligator man and how he mixed the meat with his hands and practically burned the house down in the kitchen. Very good mix to hold your interest. Quebec- Interesting, disturbing but in a enlightening sort of way. It did on one hand remind me of night of the living dead but it really is an eye opener as to what we do too. This was very good work and brave. And there was a little bit of suffering with the quantity of duck so conflict and embarrassment works again too. Sweden- Sorry, but what happened? I still think this episode was Flat and uneventful. It spent a long time in search of Abba and boring repetitive themes and just blandness. I guess conflict was missing here. And how about those embarrassing moments? And no Swedish massage with Abba music in the background? Lol And yet still I rather watch this than any other travel/food programs. Puerto Rico- Entertaining and colorful and interesting side trips. And I remember seeing the Pig cheeks in a london show too, pork is certainly a favorite. Maybe Anthony can consider a payback episode from all the suffering of prior shows. lol Melinda
  5. I do understand your point about rich material etc. I like all the episodes including Iceland, which gave me the most belly laughs I ever had and yet it also gave you an idea of how people live there and some other interesting people and characters. I know when I travel to Pakistan it is emotional, scenic, and every moment every scene is a national geographic opportunity. I don't get that if I go to lots other places. So I guess when all the other episodes have been so interesting your expectations go up. And that was a compliment incidently. I do look forward to the future programs especially India. Thank you, Melinda
  6. I have to say that this was my least favorite episode. Not much to this episode glass blowing, meatballs and a hotdog with shrimp salad? And the reindeer part seemed to be cut off early without showing the results. It also seemed to repeat ideas of philosophy about being average over and over, I don't like Abba either but that also was played over and over, no drama, no conflict, and nothing unusal in any scene. Which made it a tad boring. The only thing that stood out to me was the flirting going on by the MTV host or was that the other way around?
  7. Congradulations. I used to carry a lemon where ever I went just in case and breathe into it. But cooked onions and fish really was my worst enemy and smells of cheap perfume and scented soaps. Try not to have an empty stomach as this can make the stomach worse. I used to eat crackers and left them at my bedside. Later on when I had cravings it was always pizza and a nestle crunch mcflurry. All the best, Melinda
  8. Where do you get whole vanilla beans in NJ Union area.
  9. Thankyou for the suggestion do you know any in NJ, I looked but didn't find any Mexican in the area (union County).
  10. In Union and but already looked in Edison under the typical Asian markets.
  11. Anyone know a place in Central New Jersey that might sell banana leaves? We may try downtown Nyc if we have time, I guess the chinatown area if we really can't find anything in NJ.
  12. We are cooking quail covered with banana leaves for an Indian improvised dish. And looked at the subzi mundi and patel brothers in our NJ area but cannot find it. Willing to go to NYC but still don't know where to go. Anyone know?
  13. I see you are going to many places including Southeast Asia. And yet you left out Pakistan, which I was hoping you would visit for its unsual cultures, food and lots of picturesque areas. Any reason why you left out Pakistan?
  14. We were using it for Cornbread pudding today. Moderator's note: This thread has been merged. The original title preceeding this post was "Seasoning Cast Iron."
  15. We are cooking at home in Union, NJ. We are making the Turkey brining it and then putting butter under the skin etc. Last year we had it fried and it was really good but every year we go for something different. Bread, salad, and then the sides mashed potato, corn pudding, miniature veggies. Pumpkin pie and Birthday cake for my dd. Party of 8 people. Hopefully it will turn out well. Happy thanksgiving

    Cornbread stuffing

Been checking around but I thought there was one using an iron skillet but if you have a good one let me know. Thankyou.
  17. I like temptee on bagels sometimes but if you are going to have lox I rather have it with the hard slab kraft, so it doesn't slide off and also it takes better with lox, and the tomato, and onion. They are all one company? Like SOS and Brillo are the same Company.
  18. Very interesting but it rings very TRUE!
  19. Its hard to describe what the first dish looks like Spinach with congeeled shiny onions and occasional pasta. You made my afternoon!
  20. Thankyou for making me laugh out loud! It certainly is an eye opener! Come on you have to admit it looks a little ewwy.
  21. The only time I saw it was when people eat fried Prawns, that was in Pakistan though. I was surprised none the less.
  22. This is quite a list. I look forward to trying these. My parents are moving from Long Island to NJ in Cranbury but we'll have a bunch to try out.
  23. What about those foot long hot dogs they show from Las Vegas do they taste any good? Anyone try them? Or do they have a lot of Grizzle in them?
  24. To clarify from my earlier post. In India and Pakistan there isn't anything called curry as a spice or mixture. It is called Garam Masla. Which is Cinnamon, Cardamon, black pepper, clove, sometimes bay leaf and a couple others depending on what part or India or Pakistan you are from. It sounds funny anytime you hear the term Curry because it doesn't really exist there. Tumeric is a separate spice and not used in Garam Masla. All dishes are separate and not all recipes use Tumeric or Garam Masla. Best wishes, Melinda
  25. Tumeric is not often part of the Garam Masla mixture. Although it can be in many recipes its a separate spice. Perhaps you are right to harminize with English or American culture they mixed together what they thought it was.
