  1. Thank you Tarte Tatin for that endorsement of Ripaille. Yes, indeed, i love scallops, coquilles, whatever... Now I have heard good things of a place called Vin sur Vin in the 7th (michelin *) - any one been?
  2. High end glamour le Bristol; straightforward bistro Josephine, Chez Dumonet ← Thanks John, As it happens, we've been to Dumonet before, so would want to try somewhere else - much as we enjoyed it.
  3. My wife and I are meeting up with two old friends in Paris in March and we are having 2 meals with them. One lunch, one dinner. Non smoking, value more important than cost. Maybe one big place for a bit of glamour and one more stylish or straightforwardly bistro-style. Places might be Bristol, Cou de la Giraffe, Ripaille, L'Astrance...but would love views on this impossible request!!
  4. Back to food on this thread.... Lunch yesterday was excellent - simple starter of crisp fresh chicory and roquefort, beautifully but simply dressed, followed by the memorable oxtail and black pudding and the St Emilion choc thing. Glasses of Marcillac and Cairanne were happy companions. Staff very caring if slightly frenetic but that's often the style of brasseries.... I'll be back
  5. thank you all for your comprehensive responses! lots of ideas and I will of course report back in due course!
  6. thanks - yes i 've heard vau is good...
  7. thank you kerriar - both menu and wine list look very appealing!
  8. Gifted gourmet - thanks for the links - a helpful set of places for me to check!
  9. Anzu - thank you very much for your helpful response. I realise I didn't give much information - anyway, I don't think type of restaurant or expense is the issue - as long as it's German rather than say Italian - but I'm worried about your comment about smoke!! Can't stand it! Proximity to the Staatsoper would be good but by no means essential I'm sure we can cope with a U Bahn trip! I suppose quality/price ratio is important plus atmosphere - so if that heps, would really appreciate your views!!
  10. Berlin restaurant ideas anyone? Gugelhof is one I was thinking of - any other ideas?
  11. visiting Berlin in November and looking for great places to eat! Including somwhere for a long Sunday lunch before Wagner at the Staatsoper!
