  1. I'll chime in for LeNell's as well. I went last Saturday and stocked up on all the things I've been meaning to get but haven't come across elsewhere: Cherry Heering, Luxardo Maraschino, Regan's orange bitters, etc. I was planning to get Drambuie, but they didn't stock it because they had an alternative they liked better (I forgot the name already). I respect that, and besides, I could barely lug home the six bottles of other stuff I already had. The bourbon selection is especially impressive. Best of all, they were samples of a new cachaca and warm cheese puffs.
  2. In my recollection, Everclear does indeed taste of Koolaid. The color indicated its relative strength - yellow early on in the evening moving on to the much stronger purple for anyone left standing. Lately I've experimented with using it for extractions - it pulls flavor out pretty fast. As for most dangerous, I'd have to say it was Ouzo served at the jewelry stores in Santorini, Greece. A successful marketing ploy for sure.
  3. Just saw this thread. My mother kept her hair curlers and pins in a CR bag. Brought back memories of watching her get ready for a party. In addition to making the best Scrabble bags, they are also great for storing small silver dishes.
  4. A nice soft drink using No. 10 for the hesitant gin drinker is the Maiden's Blush: 2 oz. Tanqueray No. 10 3/4 oz. triple sec 1/2 oz. lemon juice dash grenadine
  5. I came up with this variation on a Ward Eight: 1 ½-2 oz. Rittenhouse Rye ¾ oz. lemon juice ½ oz. simple syrup ½ oz. pomegranate molasses (not grenadine) dash Peychauds Works well with either a flamed lemon peel or a cherry.
  6. Last summer at the beach house someone macerated wild strawberries with good balsamic vinegar. The juice left over in the bowl looked too good to toss, so, much to the horror of my housemates, I mixed it up in a margarita. It was fanatastic. The sweet and sour was balanced and didn't throw off the drink at all. The only reference I'd ever seen to drinking vinegar was in a Little House on the Prairie book when they drank vinegar water as a cheap substitute for lemonade on a hot day.
