  1. Wanna add another awesome sushi place in Davie area: Kadoya Japanese Restaurant (Davie & Thurlow) 1063 Davie Street - (604) 608-1115 Great sushi, reasonable price, and lots of very creative rolls.

  4. Since Andrew mentioned they don't have a website, could I impose on you to post the street address and possibly the hours/days of operation if you know? TIA ←
  5. We went to Morton 3 times for the same coupon deal in July '05 with different group of people each time. Must mentioned that the Melting Chocolate Cake is the best in town, IMO. Good size, warm, and very dreamy chocolaty. It's a pretty good deal all in all. Oh, and I really like their mint. Smooth, melt in your mouth kind. Ordered from Hospitality Mints: http://www.hospitalitymints.com/Default.htm Still hunting around town to get more of these mints. They're addictive!
  6. OMG! Cassava cake!!! I have been drolling all day long. Just wanna express how much I appreciate your blog and your fantastic talents with words and pics. I am constantly in awe, realizing how lucky we are to have slice of our world in the presence of your greatness. I LOVE THE MOUSE FAMILY!!!!!! Big hug, JEBB
  7. Chocolate, for sure. I can inhale a bar of Dagoba Xocolatl in 2.1 seconds However, I've just discovered "matcha" (green tea) last sunday and I'm hooked!! For some reason, the tea relaxes me, makes me less groggy, and no more chocolate cravings. Also, I'm intriqued with matcha health benefits: (quoted from Infuze Tea House) * 2 cups of regular green tea has approximately twice the antioxidants of red wine, 7 times that of orange juice, and 20 times that of apple juice. Matcha, on a gram per gram basis, has approximately 10 times the polyphenols and antioxidants of regular teas. * Matcha has approximately 9 times the beta carotene of Spinach, 4 times that of carrots * Matcha contains essential vitamins and minerals for a healthy lifestyle Source: Certificate of Analysis #021068-1 Japan Measurement Certificator Constituent Breakdown: Standard tables of Food Composition in Japan 5th Revised Editions Here's more info on matcha and of course there are lots more other online resources if u google "matcha" Now to the real problem, what should I do with my 10-lb chocolate supplies scattered in cupboard / fridge / drawer / office drawer / bathroom vanity / jacket pocket / workout gymbag ?
  8. Yes, Monday to Friday, 11a - 2:30p I think they're not open for holidays. 420 West Pender (cross st Homer) 604 605 0420
  9. Granville Island might be perfect for some girlfriend time providing lots of distraction for kids. For lunch, they can get some sandwiches in the market, leisurely stroll to the little park on the entrance of granville island, eat, talk, feed the kids, and talk some more while the kids play on the nearby playground or watching the ducks. Rainy day alternative, I'd suggest Kirin Restaurant on Alberni between Burrard and Thurlow (downtown). They have superb dim sum items: - sticky rice (soft, melt in your mouth, and most importantly, loaded with good stuff like eggs and beef, not just rice) - prawn with chives in clear skin dumpling (very tasty) - tofu with mushroom - shark fin dumpling soup (again, very tasty) and also the best Tan Tan Noodle in town thin egg noodle (fresh) in meat (ground beef) and light peanut sauce Great thing about dim sum, you never have to rush or worry about noisy kids.
  10. I satisfy my Korean noodle craving with this: I'm not Korean btw. Isn't it obvious from my lack of "cooking" creativity?
  11. When there's no mo' nutella, I move on to this: Chocolate sprinkles and condense milk sandwich Living at "yuppy" neighborhood, finding a loaf of Wonder Bread can be a mission: - getting raised eyebrows & snickers from Urban Fare bakery staff - no regular Safeway around the corner - when finally found a Safeway, they don't have it! At last, mission accomplished at 7 Eleven. Thank Gawd.
  12. Nutella... mmm... can't stop myself from droolin.... My nutella ritual involves: 1. Big spoon 2. Big nutella jar (costco size preferred) 3. Medium crunchy Skippy peanut butter (honey roasted nut version is a plus) During this ritual, I'm not on earth.
  13. First time for us in Irish Heather is during the whiskey cheese sampling. I was blown away by the hot-toddie (spelling?) not to mention all the delicious cheese from Salty Tongue and whiskey of course. Totally love the cheese platter in the menu. Sooooo good!!! Honestly I was a little intimidated by the atmosphere at first because in my mind, "pub" is associated with "drunkards with red noses" However, the 2nd time we're there, I had a great time lounging in the "hip" back room that resembles a green room. Curious to see the place during daylight. All in all, chimes in with Neil on this, IH is a FANTABULOUS hangout place!
  14. To me, Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich is very exotic when I first travel to North America. We usually put condense milk and chocolate sprinkle on our bread in Jakarta.
  15. The first one we tried in Vancouver is from Michelle cake shop (Chinese bakery?) in Kerrisdale, 604.261.3284 6033 W Boulevard (on your right hand side going North on West Boulevard). After gobbled up our own respective portion, we went back the next day and bought 20 of them right from the oven. Then, we discover Fortuna bakery (i think this is portuguese owned? found a portuguese newspaper in the store... ) 604.298.9610 4240 Hastings Street (go east on hastings, past the PNE, it's on your right hand side before Anton's pizza) You might want to call them before making the trip, the tarts sold out super fast. Also tried their white bean pastries. It's super yummy. I like Fortuna's version better because the custard are thoroughly cooked and firm. Personally I don't like any 'wiggly' texture. However, my hubby loves Michelle's version because he likes the softer custard. Happy custard hunting and lemme know which one you like best and why.
