  1. Seriously... I'd have to say Lobster.  I know why its supposed to be good, but its just a big insect. (okay, please don't waste your time with all of the "you don't know what you are missing posts--I've heard it)

    John,

That's amazing! I hate lobster mainly because of it's looks too! I'll eat the meat is it's removed from the body, but I'm not going to sit and pick at an animal that looks like a giant cockroach.

I also intensely dislike brussel sprouts. Bleagh!!

  2. Iris,

The day was overcast. We attempted several other nearby restaurants, only to find most of them closed for Sunday 'lunch'. The most casual

of places offered a limited brunch. So, their [Ocean Place] Sunday

brunch was somewhat 'welcome' at that point! I would not term it

a 'dining experience', but it did provide some banquet level, decent food, piano music, etc in a quiet & comfortable atmosphere..........certainly

not Joe & Maggie's cuisine nor Indigo Moon's pretty room. Any other

    upscale brunch recommendation?

    Paula J,

How about Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank? Sally Tee's in Monmouth Beach?

  3. -Joe & Maggie's Bistro [Long Branch]

    If you wish an upscale

quiet Sunday brunch you might try the Ocean Place Hotel.

Joe and Maggie's is one of my favorite local restaurants. I've enjoyed every entree I've ever eaten there. It also used to be my local bar, so I'm sure that's very endearing to me also.

Brunch at Ocean Place Hotel? Hmmmm, I don't know about that. My sister used to be their pastry chef there a few years ago, and her SO is a waiter. I know I've heard horror stories about restaurants before, but these folks seem to be the most knuckled of the knuckleheads. Story after story of inefficiency, stupidity, and bad management. You might want to think twice.

  4. I would like oreos if they didn't have the filling at all.  I'll twist it apart, eat the plain side, and give the other to a young member of my family.  I really hate the filling.

My grandmother wouldn't let me have the center when I was a child. She said it was too sweet. Needless to say, as an adult I crave all the Oreo filling from my repressed childhood!

I can picture your grandma going through a newly purchased box of Oreos's, deftly opening them and scraping out the creme centers with a spatula...

What did she do with the leftover filling?

She probably just threw it out. I can't imagine her and my grandfather 'paryting' with Oreo filling...

  5. Addendum - Molto and Joe Bastianich also own Italian Wine Merchants. Am I correct in assuming that Joe is descended from Lydia ? anyone ? andone ?

    thx

    I believe that's her husband.

Those peanut butter Oreos sound fantastic! I'm going to have to try some.

  7. I'm so sick and tired of people bringing their whiny, overcharged children into restaurants. No, I don't think that their running around the dining room is cute. No, I don't want to "bond" with your children. If I wanted children I would have chosen to procreate.

I spend as much money on my meal as their inconsiderate, mealy mouthed parents and I'd like to enjoy my lunch/dinner in peace.

That is one of my biggest pet peeves. The other is loud boorish people screaming into their cell phones. Give me a break!!

    Iris
