  1. Hi CCJ, sounds like you are all set to experience the best of Victoria for dinner per everyone else's suggestions. But what about lunch? A few places I like are Kim's Vietnamese (748 Johnston St), uninspired decor, but fresh and very tasty offerings. Try the deep fried tofu, it is uncomplicated but sublime. Or if you like Thai, try Sook Jai Thai on Fort street - always yummy and they have lunch combos. another thing you'll need to know is where to get good coffee! caffe fantastico is your best bet. A nice thing to do is go to their cook st village location (McKenzie st, I believe), they are in a little food court on a side street off Cook. Get yourself a fabulous coffee and go for a stroll along Dallas road. Don't be strayed by the duelling Starbucks and Moka House on the way there! Stay the course to Fantastico. Hope you enjoy your getaway!
  2. Thanks so much to everyone who replied to my post - it was really great to get so many thoughtful replies and useful information. My personal take on all this is that I will likely start a blog of my own - it may evolve into a website at some point. I see it's purpose as twofold: first, as a central repository for my work and somewhere to point editors to so they can get a feeling for what my writing is like and secondly, as a impetus for myself to write more and develop my style. To play around with different types of food writing, it's all experimental for me at this point. I don't see it as a popularity contest of any kind - I don't even expect to see any kind of loyal readership develop. I'm new at this so I'm sure I will look back at my first posts in a year and see how far I've come (let's hope so!). And of course, if I do happen to get published, I will definitely have a posting to link to that. I agree that having photos on your blog would be a definite asset as well - I'm working on that too. You've all spurred my enthusiasm - so much to do, see and taste (better start writing!)...
  3. Hi there, I am starting out on a new (sideline) career as a food and travel writer. I wonder if there are any other food writers out there and if they use blogs as a tool for showcasing their work. I am thinking at least to have my work available online somewhere since I don't have a website available yet and I am not published. Now that blogs are everywhere though, I wonder if they are considered too trendy or not taken seriously by editors or others in the publishing business. Any feedback on this topic would be greatly appreciated!
