  1. BAD news!! The Press Democrat reported that Chef Dishman and his wife are leaving General's Daughter at the end of July. IS IT TRUE????
  2. GENERAL's Daughter is GREAT!! We ate there for the second time this year last night, and the food was even better than before. There's a new menu (part one of it, old menu favorites are still there as well.) Plus Chef Preston was most gracious and a pleasure to talk with, as was his wife Nichole. Just an idea of what we had: Appetizers -- tuna tartare, very fresh and delicious with slices of ahi tuna on the side; fabulous sweetbreads in bourbon sauce with creamy something in the sauce. Main dishes -- carbonara style pasta with quail egg yolk you mix in yourself; pasta pillows with foie gras filling and sauce; shrimp with creamy polenta in a wonderful spicy brown sauce; mediterranean sea bass with artichokes; lamb sirloin with vegetables; plus dessert. mmmmmmmmmmmmm And yes, there were only 2 of us! But we managed to do it. At this point it's probably our favorite Sonoma restaurant, and we like a LOT of them. The chef has high ambitions for this new venture, and we think he will succeed if this food is any indication. The place itself is lovely as well. GO!!
  3. For only one great meal, I would go to General's Daughter. Meritage is good, but focus is mainly on seafood. Both places are attractive in totally different ways. I'm not crazy about ElDorado Kitchen -- would prefer Della Santina or Ledson for lunch. Girl and the fig is reliably good.
  4. what did you think? We ate there the same night -- good food, very disorganized and slow as would usually be the case that first night.. Halibut with Meyer Lemon zest and chickpeas was great, Moroccan lamb was good but not as seasoned as you would expect. We will try it again. ← We've been back to Harvest Moon, it's excellent now. Menu changes daily, it's posted outside the door. They're trying hard, let's support these guys!

  6. OH Good!! We are headed back to our place in Sonoma for 3 months in about a week, glad something new is coming........thanks for the update!! (Glad this thread is still going strong, too)
  7. Anyone know of anything interesting around Larkspur and Petaluma?
  8. Heading back to Sonoma shortly (the town). Sadly, there were lots of closings this fall ( Cafe Le Presse, Sonoma Saveurs, two Italian ones on the corners of the square, maybe Maya. These are all restaurants we will miss. Anything taking their place? Is there a reason all these good ones are dying??
  9. In Wilmington, Restaurant 821 has a new chef and wines and food are excellent. Recent meal there was braised beef cheek appetizer for me, delicious , mozzarela salad with figs for hubby. Mains -- duck confit with goat cheese risotto and a great "Forever Braised Shortiribs" classic favorite at 821. Desserts are great too. Many other good restaurants in Wilmington (mentioned in other posts, including Deep Blue, Moro and Harry's Seafood) but for my money 821 is the winner.
  10. Loved Chef Theodore's, and agree. Miss those flaming opas! I will look forward to trying Estia when it opens.
  11. Are there any good ones left? In Philly, the burbs or Wilmington? I'm craving some good skordalia!!
  12. If there's really karaoke it must have changed a LOT since I was there! Hasn't anyone eaten there??? It was really very good once.
  13. We had a very good meal a year or so ago at The Happy Rooster in Philadelphia, but nobody seems to mention it. Living in Chester County, we have to choose carefully since we aren't in Philly as often as we like, so I wondered if people think it's any good now......?
  14. A new locale. ← Do you know the address? We love Carmine's too, but it's a drive from Landenberg........
