  1. Yes, thanks for all the tips. I am loving the oliffe's delmonico's. To die for!
  2. Hi, Just wondering where the really good meat can be found in toronto for home cooking. I tried Oliff's steak this weekend and thought it was very tasty. Thanks, coco
  3. Hi, I hope we are talking about the original CB off south kingway and the original pusateri at Lawrence/avenue. All bets are off if we are discussing the other two. jkl
  4. Try Cabbagetown for espresso's... jet fuel is pretty decent.
  5. Cheese Boutique is the really good european shop you wished you could bring home and pusateri is the expensive commercial one back home. The vibe is better at Cheese Boutique but I find the oils, preserves are more abundant at Pusateri's.
  6. Hi, I am so hungry right now. I agree that the really good food is the home tested and mother approved type of homestyle food you suggested such as croissants, etc. I am striving to have meals that are truly authentic from the region where mama is cooking in the back. Thanks for the suggestions. jkl
  7. Hello, We are staying in paris the first night and the last two nights. Just started looking at the map and different areas to visit. I really don't know whether it is better to stay in the city such as Dijon, Beane, or stay in smaller places along the wine routes. I know I want to hit Vosne Romanee, Nuit St. George, puligny Montrachet, Savigny de Beane in Burgundy. The trip seems alot more difficult to plan since there are SO MANY places to go. I also plan to buy and ship back to Canada although I know it is a pain in the ass to ship back to Canada. So overwhelming! jkl
  8. Hello, My friend and I are booked to go to Paris May 19-29. Planning to rent a car in Dijon and wine tour in Burgundy, Rhone, Chablis regions. If there are any special spots to eat and stay on the open road, please suggest. thanks, jkl
  9. I second Bonjour Broiche... but it gets very busy even with the patio. Their french toast is baked with croissant batter. mmmm... and their tarts (quiche) are the best in the city.
  10. I had a fabulous experience at Thuet on Friday August 12. Maybe it depends on the night. I went with my father and his girlfriend and had the 5 course taster. The flavours were very interesting and delicate. Last month the three of us went to splendido and had the meal off the regular menu which I found was better than off the taster (and more expensive). Our family just returned from Portugal and believe that the fish was cooked better at Splendido than in Lisbon. With regard to Thuet, all three of us agreed that Thuet is a better restaurant and the chef has a better understanding of sauces and the base of flavours than other chefs in the city. My favourite restaurant for years was Susur but lately the fusion asian trend is getting boring and I have turned to more traditional based preparations in cooking. The place was very empty which is sorta sad. I have heard in the past that service was horrible, but our experience was not excellent but nothing to complain about. The only drawback from the restuarant I found was that the taster was dishes right off the regular menu which was kinda strange but the food was nevertheless excellent.
