  1. i recommend hiura on main street in fort lee for sushi. fwiw probably 90% of the patrons i've seen there have been japanese. the last two times i've been to river palm the steaks (and other food) haven't been as good as they were in years past. not sure if i was just unlucky or if things have slipped, but i prefer fleming's or assembly.
  2. fort lee - hiram's, hiura, mo pho, the korean restaurant across from the bank of america edgewater - fleming's, yolato, kinara hackensnack - white manna palisades park - the tofu place on bergen blvd, johnny's
  3. Details please! ← 520 bergen blvd, right next to a shabu shabu restaurant (which used to be under the same ownership but changed earlier in the year). both in the same strip as johnny's. there's parking in front of the restaurants as well as a lot in the back.
  4. i didn't see the show, but it's probably the soft tofu place on main street in fort lee just before it turns into river road in edgewater. it gets really crowded at times, so i've been going to another place in palisades park the last few years because the parking is better and the restaurant less rushed.
  5. tried hot dog johnny's for lunch today and i'm a bit disappointed. fries were good and the outdoor seating area great. but the hot dogs were a little mushy and very salty. didn't have a chance to have the buttermilk. guess i'd stop by again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of the way for it. rode to white mana and washed down hot dog johnny's with a couple of doubles with cheese and onions.
  6. is white rose in roselle related to white rose in linden? i'd say it's white mana>white rose(linden)>white manna iirc there was a burger express on the springfield/millburn border years ago, but it's no longer around. i remember sitting in the train car booths as a kid.
  7. stopped by white mana in jc last night for the first time to see what it's like compared to white manna in hackensnack. i've probably been to the hackensack location several dozen times, but moved from that area to jc about 6 months ago. white manna has great burgers (i usually get double cheeseburgers with onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce), mediocre fries and not a whole lot else. i believe they recently extended their weekend hours as well. white mana is open 24/7, has an extended menu and more seating capacity. the burgers are just decent though. better than the fast food places, but not a top-10. the seasoned cheese fries are good. didn't have a chance to try anything else. i'll stop by again because it's convenient and not a bad place, but i'll go out of my way to stop at the one in hackensack.
  8. favorite place is hiura on main street in fort lee. we only started going sometime last year, but it's very good. used to go to kaname semi-regularly, but our last two experiences there haven't been so great (food-wise).
  9. i'm a fan of shabri, which is in royal albert's palace in fords, nj. anyone else been there?
  10. i like the tofu place in palisades park. 520 bergen boulevard.
  11. thanks for all of the recommendations. we'll be sure to try them out.
  12. hello! my fiance and i just moved to jersey city from fort lee. not that far distance-wise, but we're having some difficulty finding good local restaurants. would appreciate any recommendations for quality food along the western half of jc. thanks! roger
  13. had a great time at rustico in manhattan. i haven't taken any other classes, though, so can't make a comparison. http://www.rusticocooking.com/
  14. the only time i've been there was maybe 5 years ago. i'd love to be able to comment on the food, but the staff there was so rude that it's the only time i've walked out (before ordering).
  15. we got there early enough friday evening that there was just one other table of customers and the staff was eating dinner. i forget the name of the dish, but it was the boneless duck with pineapple, coconut milk and some other things. one of the younger people waited on our table - i don't believe they were cold, necessarily, but that they could have paid better attention to their patrons.
  16. went to wondee's this past weekend for the first time. the other few times i've tried to go there i forget that the restaurant is closed on mondays, lol. the fried tofu appetizer and chicken pad krapow were both very good. the duck dish that we ordered was mediocre. service was not good either - the waitstaff was not that attentive and just stood around chatting amongst themselves. another table had to send someone up to ask for their check. two of the dishes were good enough that i'll go back and give it another try, but i was expecting more and a little disappointed after reading the reviews here.
  17. sorry, joe and tess's has been closed for some time now. their key lime pie was great! iirc tess used to bring the limes back with her from florida.
  18. my gf and i keep a few bags of the vegetable dumplings, vegetable buns and red bean buns in the freezer for a quick meal. easiest (and best imo) way to make them is steaming. i prefer the chinese style ones that we used to get in chinatown, but englewood is practically on the way home from work. i stopped in last week and the building across the parking lot was offering valet parking. not sure what was going on, but it seemed a little strange.
