  1. We've narrowed down the list to Tony Mandola's for catering, Riojas Tapas, Backstreet Cafe, and River Oaks Grill for dinner. I think I've looked at nearly every restaurant in Houston ~ you're really spoiled when it comes to the variety and diversity of food. I just wish that I could find beignets like Cafe DuMond. For the ones we don't choose, I think that we'll have lunch/dinner because the menus look scrumdelicious! Thanks for the suggestions.
  2. I need to have a couple of cakes made for a gathering I'm having in Houston later this month. I want something good and local (read: mom and pop) and not the usual grocery/Costco mash. Any suggestions? Downtown, Montrose, or Galleria preferred; however, I'm open to other locations.... those are just the ones I can find without mapquest. I'm visiting and I know that our Homeland Security guys at SeaTac won't allow a cake on board my flight. They're still trying to figure out the Christmas tree debacle - not to mention is 2.5 oz more than 3 oz? But I digress....
  3. I've had it occasionally. Seems to be standard pizza chain fare with some interesting combinations. Definitely a step up from Pizza Hut, Domino's and the like. They're usually crowded and not worth the extra effort of waiting. FYI... They also sell some of their pizzas through grocery stores.
  4. The only problem with Geraldine's Counter - if it can be considered a problem - is that they rotate which pancakes they make daily. I'm not sure if there is a definite rotation. However, if your mouth is hankering for a buttermilk pancake and it's not on the menu.... The yam fries are good and definitely worth it.
  5. I went to B&O Espresso on Capital Hill (Olive Way & Belmont). They stay open until 2am (way late for moi) and have a pretty good looking menu. In addition, the desserts were to die for and the sample appetizer plate with meditteranean fare was excellent.
  6. I believe that Geraldine's is just open until about 3pm daily. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to the sweet potato fries. When is Lottie Motts going to reopen as "more than a coffee shop?"
