  1. Dayum.. that's like 2 blocks from me but I'd never noticed it. Lunch!
  2. Fave ad right now (kinda old.. but still cracks me up) is the M&M's Wizard of Oz reconstruction w/ Dorothy.. in black and white. "Oh.. it was a LOT better!" And, of course, the spongmonkeys

    Ginger Altoids

Spotted these in a 7-11 on Saturday. So, maybe they're being distributed a bit wider now.
  4. Mole - tastes like when you roll up a bunch of pennies to me Sauerkraut - texture and smell.. I just hate this stuff Broccoli (sp?) - G. Bush Sr. was right (about this one thing) Slim Jims - OMG.. I'm gonna go hurl right now
  5. Nothing to add really... maybe Dan's on N. Lamar in Austin. Good breakfast. Or Wok N' Roll on Burnet. There was (maybe still is) a gyros place on Burnet we used to frequent. Ditto on Les Ami /sigh Ditto on the Egg Roll carts on the Drag Ditto on Dirty's.. noone mentioned Hut's?
  6. My father would occasionally have a fit of WW2 nostalgia.. and make, ahem, SoS. Shit on a Shingle. Pardon the vernacular. I'm not sure exactly *what* it was.. but involved those small jelly-like jars of chipped beef (Hormel?) and Cream of Wheat. He never forced his horrified offspring to eat it, thank God. The smell was bad enough. I've met others who recall this concoction as DVoT. Dog Vomit on Toast.

    Starbucks

6 bucks an hour for wireless internet at Star*ucks that I can get free elsewhere has sent me scampering to all manner of cool funky locally owned coffee shops I never knew existed. So... thank you SB
  8. Heading to Nawlins this weekend for the first time. Appreciate this thread :) Any places right in the Quarter to check out? Avoid? We'll be essentially on foot. And casual is a must.
  9. Noone ever counts the "washing the dishes" part. Half of cooking my be Thinking About Cooking, but a huge part of what's left over is washing the dishes
  10. mmmm fresh spinach qualifies for me too I adored cherry pie as a kid until my grandmother got wind of it and literally (figuratively) drowned me in cherry pie one summer. I still avoid it. She meant well though You gotta watch what you tell grandma :)
  11. I only learned to love blue cheese this year.. and I'm 46 years old
  12. gosh.. noone's mentioned Pepperidge Farm Bordeux's (I'm *so* sure I misspelled that :)) I ginger snaps too
  13. Ya'll are so funny Bacon in the movies: "We'll always have bacon" "Life is like a box of bacon" (mmmm a box of bacon) "There is no bacon in baseball!!"
  14. My Father's Milkshake: Milk Nestle's Quik 2 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream It's more of a Float, I suppose. There's no blender involved. But the chocolate milk forms these yummy little crusties on the Ice Cream and, when I was a kid anyway, there was nothing better. Dad made one of these and a grilled cheese sandwich every single working day lunch until he retired, so there's a lot of nostalgia value for me in this hehe. As an adult though.. I've never been able to get myself to purchase Nestle's Quik.
  15. Noticed the enchiladas at the Dart Bowl made the critic's list.. didn't that shut down like 8 years ago? Or does the old Capital Bowl on Grover serve the Dart Bowl enchiladas now? I really loved those :) Obviously I don't bowl much.......

    Throwing it away

I just took the afore-mentioned Bulldozer to my pantry just last week. Was *very* satisfying.. it's been YEARS hehe. Filled an entire trash bag and a half with violated grains, flours, oatmeals, brown sugars.. /shudder. And a rather large box for donation filled with odd canned foods that Past Roommates had left behind. Scrubbed it down, relined the shelves and arranged what remained to some semblance of an order. Felt great and looks great too Who knew I had so much tomato sauce? To my chagrin though, one of the current Roommates saw the donation box as a treasure trove of low rent eats and loaded all but like 6 cans back into the pantry argh! Like he'll eat that ancient can of hominy.
  17. Only Hungarian I've had in Austin was at a private party catered by a lovely Hungarian woman and her son. This was like 4 years ago though and probably totally useless information
  18. "Big Night" always leaves me ravenous. I noticed WTIIOT is on DVD now.
  19. First.. I'm grateful for the opportunity and thrilled you're participating with us! I look forward to your responses! As a bar game, my friends and I will sometimes try to guess what drink someone will order. Based pretty much completely on how they look or are dressed. (I'm terrible at this game.. though I can spot a Bud Man pretty quick hehe) I imagine when you are designing a Signature Drink though, you are basing it more on personality type. I'm curious what sort of criteria you use and is it completely subjective or based on some form of research? Just experience? Honestly curious since I don't have a Signature Drink and desperately want one Thanks for your time! /clink
  20. What does to "mull" mean? Is that referring to the butter? Or just to warming something?
  21. Interesting.. Everyone here is mentioning Rum (or brandy), while most people I know use whiskey and say they've never heard of using Rum. Which is what I use. mmmmmmm eggnog :) The Promised Land is really good! (for store bought)
