  1. My wife and I will be staying at the Renaissance Waverly hotel this weekend 6/20 thru 6/22. We will be attending a conference there, and all meals will be provided except Sunday morning. I see on the hotel's website that they offer a Sunday Brunch. Has anyone tried it? We will have transportation, and wondered if there might be a better choice for Sunday breakfast/ brunch within about a 20 minute drive from the hotel. Thnks in advance for any info ! Chili Dog
  2. Jubilee Seafood- Old Cloverdale area. Owner Bud Skinner flies in fesh Gulf seafood several times a week. Brightly lit, no frills atmosphere, but some of the best seafood dishes in the state. City Grill- East Side, Taylor Road area. Upscale, high quality ingrediants, knowlegable waitstaff. Seafood, pasta, good steak. Try their crawfish pie! Chris' Hotdogs-Downtown Govt. area. Been there about 50 years. Chili dogs, hand formed burgers. There are many meat and three places in town also. You may want to check out Montgomery Advertiser website. Please, overlook the writing!! Most of the reviews are done "man on the street" style (no professional food critics here) , but it is a decent list of area restaurants. While Montgomery doesn't have anything-or anyone of Frank Stitt's caliber, you can still find a few decent eats without hitting I-65 North.
  3. Barbecue House in Auburn- Pork and Chicken only. Pit cooked over oak logs. Sanwiches finished in an old electric press. Mustard based sauce. Get the barbecue slaw. Trust me ! Byron's SmokeHouse in Auburn-Pork, Chicken and Ribs. Ribs and Chicken always good. Sometimes the first of the pork plates tastes like yesterdays butts warmed over, but by mid lunch that mornings batch is coming off the pit. Hickory and oak mix. Sauce is a sweeter red sauce. Sides are average, but the locals just grab a bag of chips and dive into the chicken and ribs. Country's Barbecue in Auburn. Full menu, including fresh ground hamburger steaks and fried chicken. Country's is a small regional chain, but they turn out some pretty good 'cue. Huge pit, oak and other hardwood mix. Mustard based sauces, three bottles per table...the lighter in color the hotter. Pork, Chicken, Ribs and Brisket. Brisket may be the weak link, but this is Alabama ! Best side dishes in town. Fresh cut fries are great. For dessert, You gotta have their homemade Goober pie. And yes, Country's serves beer, served with a Mason jar mug. Hope one of these places suits you. Enjoy your visit to the "lovliest village."
