  1. For Korean try Han Sun Oak. It's out on Columbia Pike. It's my favorite. The waitresses and hostess are usually accomodating but if you are not Korean you might wind up getting the "You will not like it!" treatment even when ordering something simple like buckwheat noodles. Someone else mentioned the food court at Lotte. The Homestyle Noodle place makes a good & inexpensive bowl of soup. I usually get a Doenjang Chige (it's fermented bean paste seafood stew, sorry for the spelling) or a bowl of Seollungtang (beef bone soup). Barry
  2. Just curious, but what does "not enough tactile presence" mean? Is that a fancy pants way of saying mushy? ← I don't know about "tactile presence" but what I do know is that I thought the creamed spinach wasn't that good. I just didn't like it at all. I wouldn't eat it again if I go back to Rays. I guess the creamed spinach I like the best is at the Palm (the one in DC - it's different elsewhere). Barry
  3. I wonder if they have a nice selection of bitter/ESB. It's hard to find a good pint of bitter in DC. Red Hook is all over the place - some places have Fullers. Busara in Glover Park occasionally has Bluebird. If anyone can fill me in on a good place to enjoy a pint I'd really appreciate it. Barry
  4. The waiter at Ray's was misinformed on this point. ← I'm going to Ray's (first time) this week. I'll find out what happens when we ask for the same thing - because I'm pretty sure that we will. My folks have asked that bottles be bagged at Virginia restaurants and It has not been a problem.... Barry
  5. I've got a good idea of the Glover Park "Italian" restaurant at which your husband "dined." I'll be nice and not mention it here. However, the place I am thinking of once served me a frozen mushroom cap with warm red sauce on it. I never went back. My opinion is that the best bar in Glover Park is at Busara. It's where most of the locals go for a drink or dinner at the bar. It's not as crowded as Bourbon and music is much, much better. Charles and Scott are excellent and cool bartenders too. Barry
  6. Yes. I'll "second" your rec. It's good. Really good. I just might go tomorrow. Yum. Barry
  7. Went for the first time last night. I've passed by it for years but never got around to trying it. Apparently there was some mix-up - hostess told us to wait at the bar for 20 minutes and then assumed we were going to eat right at the bar instead of a table in the bar area which we asked for. So we waited a bit. Well a little longer than a bit. They took care of us after realizing the mistake. I guess these things happen from time to time. No big deal. The food was defintely worth the extended wait. We shared the fries which were excellent. The onion rings are especially wonderful. I had the salad, duck wings (awesome) and the chocolate torte (very, very chocolatey - super rich). My friend had a soup and a pasta dish. I'm not sure which. He really enjoyed both though. I will be back soon. For $10 a plate food this good is a bargin! Next time I'm going for the burger or the roast chicken. Barry
  8. No, a different place. The Family Fish House had several branches in the area. The last one I remember was in the 1776 plaza on the second level (above where the pool hall is now), there was also one in Columbia. There is still a Chesapeake Bay Seafood House on Rt. 7 near Columbia Pike. Interesting that they always enticed people to visit by offering king crab legs. I don't think I ever head of king crabs in the Chesapeake. ← The Family Fish House chain was operated by a parent company called Liberty Equities Corporation. Liberty Equities Corporation fizzled out and what was left became the Smithfield Foods - that's right - it evolved into the largest pork producer in the United States. I remember going to a Family Fish house in Newport News (might have been Hampton). Anyways, the reason I know all of this is because my dad worked for LEC and later, SFD. I think the guys that ran the Family Fish House end of the operation were the ones who started the Chesepeake Bay Seafood House chain, but I'm not 100% sure. Barry
