  1. That was going to be my last resort if I couldn't find it in town. Thanks.
  2. Ah, thanks. The last time I went to Whole Foods I didn't see SAF, but I'll check again.
  3. Anyone know a good place to buy yeast in larger quantities in NYC? Every grocery store I go into seems to only have the 3-pack of the little packets.
  4. I actually really enjoyed this dessert. I thought the ice cream in particular was an unexpected pleasure.
  5. Are they open on Sunday? I have class near there and a sweet bread would be tasty. ← They're on 47th between 10th and 11th, and yes, they're open on Sunday. They also serve Illy coffee for $1, and it's divine.

    Esca

I had a fabulous meal at Esca on New Year's Eve. We went for the tasting menu with paired wines, and I have to say it was one of my favorite neighborhood dining experiences. The one dish I was a little apprehensive about (appetizer of monkfish liver) was superb, and paired with a wonderful dessert wine which balanced the richness perfectly. The service was impeccable -- wonderfully attentive. And the dessert -- a trio of lemon tart, chocolate cake with gelato, and 3 sorbets with cookies -- was out of this world. Needless to say, the crudo was also great. We had razor clams and hamachi -- both wonderfully fresh and invigorating. And while the meal wasn't cheap, at $120 each (including tip and tax) for a 6-course meal with paired wines, I thought it was a great deal.
  7. Today's NYT has an article on CHOW, the first issue of which is apparently available now: Chow Mag Goes Well With 'Tude
