  1. My wife and I are going to Stuart next week. She does not eat any seafood but I do. Any recommendations of restaurants in the area would be helpful. Thanks Mark
  2. For the Martini Savoy is your place, also in my opinion, we eat out here every weekend, the best food in Asheville. You’re problem is going to be not having a car. Also, I’m not sure where you’re going to stay near UNCA. I think the solution would be to find a place downtown. The weather this time of the year can be bad and you don’t want to walk far in it. Downtown is only 5 minutes from UNCA and you can walk to maybe 20 places to eat and drink. BTW, what kind of audition are you doing at UNCA? Good luck, you’ll love it here
  3. Here in Asheville we are blessed with such a diverse population from old style hippie communes to large developments with multi-million dollar homes. I think, because of that we are also blessed with a very wide range in eateries. There are several vegetarian places to high dollar ($100 a meal) restaurants. Still, we don’t have what I consider any five star places we go out every weekend to eat and over the last ten years we lived here we’ve never lacked for a good meal.
  4. To mention La Bastide and The Woodlands in the same thread is such a disservice to The Woodlands. I have visited both within the last 60 days and came away from La Bastide VERY disappointed. Woodlands on the other hand, was probably the best meal I’ve ever had.
  5. Actually, I did not mean to put together the Mobil stars and AAA diamonds. Several weeks ago we were in Atlanta at the Four Seasons. We met the Chef at the Park 75. He had worked at The Woodlands before going to Atlanta and he mentioned that the woodlands had achieved 10 stars. This is the first time I had herd it and it stuck in my mind. Sorry for the confusion. My intention on posting really wasn’t on the accolades that this place has received, but how much the food and service there impressed my wife and me. We spent a week at the Ritz in Amelia Island in June and dinned several nights at The Grill, which is rated 5 diamonds and, except for their Sunday Brunch, was not that impressed.
  6. Mobil 5 stars for lodging and another 5 for the Dining room.
  7. This is my first post here but I have been enjoying the forum. After this past weekend’s stay at the Woodlands I felt I needed to share our experiences. The Woodlands is one of only three 10 star establishments in the country. I wanted to take the trip with my wife for our anniversary to somewhere special and since this jewel is only three hours away it was an easy pick. Am I ever glad I did! The house only has 19 rooms and each one is different. The service was as good as it gets. We usually stay at Ritz Carlton’s or Four Seasons when we get the chance and this place equaled their best. BUT, I feel the crown jewel was the dinning room. The food was a step above anything we have ever had and not just dinner but breakfast and lunch. If I lived near Charleston I would go broke eating there every week. Special note goes to Stephan the sommelier, he was outstanding.
