  1. i nominate hamburger mary's for one of the suckiest burgers in dc. overcooked, cold, cheese not even melted on the cheeseberger. the even managed to screw up a veggie burger my friend ordered. for a place with hamburger in the name, you'd think they could at least cook one to temp!
  2. i'd be up for the press club event. the q & a should be interesting... or maybe not... from Stratton Davis at the press club: "There is extremely limited space available for this dinner. I am almost sold out. We do not know if Anthony Bourdain or any of his staff will be on hand to help out with cooking. He will be in attendance for the reception, dinner and book signing. Executive Chef Jim Swenson will be developing a menu with Mr. Bourdain to serve that evening. We will have a wine specialist on hand to present and answer questions about the wine. Non-members are more than welcome to come to the dinners. Please call today if you are interested."
  3. and wafu salad...the dressing is to die for!
  4. in order of preference, for me +1 (or 2 depending on the final date) 17 19 20 18
  5. well, i didn't attend darden, but i actually dislike this strategy. i always feel abused when a restaurant starts low and creeps up. it's a transparent marketing ploy, and it kind of makes me feel like they're trying to put one over on their customers. and i concur - this place is wonderful. i'm mildly addicted, ordering takeout when time doesn't permit casual dining on the rooftop. and as mentioned above, the servers are wonderful, treating you as if you were a guest in their home. larry plans to offer cooking class this winter - sign their guestbook to get details. i'm thinking an e-gullet outing may be in order...
  6. i would head straight for the slanted door. i agree that the the ambiance is more depot like than the old location (after all, it is in the ferry building now), but i had the most fabulous meal last visit. and my brother ate there three times in two days and loved every bite (he's a former chef). and there's a great cheese shop in the ferry building, while your there. some think it's touristy, but i also really like boulevard. sit at the counter and watch the show as the line cooksdo their thing. zuni cafe, however, i wasn't impressed with. Postrio was tastey, if you like wolfgang puck, though the service was a bit too casual for the prices. wish i was going...
  7. i'm in, depending on which week. i'm possibly away last week of october.
