  1. Maytag's good, Ronnie, but have you tried Schwarz und Weiss or Harmony Blue from Golden Ridge Cheese in Cresco? Blows Maytag out of the water ← Good call on the Golden Ridge - unbelievable. I assume you also have Simone in there. Did a pizza dinner at her place this summer that was well nigh close to perfect.
  2. My wife and I ate at CH last month and thoroughly enjoyed it. She said she would go back and she is VERY picky. The veel cheeks were out of this world good. The duck was excellent. The truffle risotto was great. The baked alaska was fabulous -whimsical but also good! The only misses were slight and still very good: to my mind the green beans had a bit too much orange to the spicing and the fois gras brulee was a bit too much show and not enough go (not enough fois gras flavor and a little too watery). Wine by the glass selection was excellent as was my martini. This place can please both the expense account crowd (if they go) and the foodie. David, in Iowa City
  3. Yes Iowa City has decidely changed for the culinary better in the almost twenty years I've lived here. It still is possible to get a bad meal however (the guilty shall remain nameless). I've been traveling a lot this summer and hadn't seen that Devotay has now been voted Best in Area (displacing Linn St), a well deserved honor, Kurt. Don't have much to add to the above. The only place I frequent that hasn't been mentioned is a sandwich shop called Baldy's. Very inexpensive and very good wraps. Haven't had a chance to try Joseph's yet. Has anyone else? My favorites: Lincoln Cafe, Takanami, Motley Cow, Devotay, and Linn St. Let me add that the wine selection at New Pi in Coralville has, to my mind, eclipsed John's, which is coasting on its reputation of late. For beer, however, they have no peer. David, in Iowa City
