Cabrales, The lady on reservations seemed perfectly genuine in knowing nothing about the Sept 25 event. She was of the opinion that it might be for members of the "Waterside Club" (??). As for your offer, thanks a lot, but, on reflection, the death of Ms Montgomery has stolen a little of the kismet from the event for me. So, right now, I don't think I will be trying for a table. If I change my mind ...

I phoned re the 30th birthday event and got nowhere. Is it invitation only? Has Marion Montgomery's sad passing affected the staging of the event?

I guessed that to be absolutely untrue - wouldn't the DT readership be of the "can't get a bad meal in France" persuasion?

lizziee You've given me a burst of Proustian happiness that I must thank you for! I had the best meals of my life there back in the 80s, and ever since I've been reading carping reviews which have oppressed me sorely. I want to go back, but I fear destruction of my dreams. I so loved the room as well. BTW, Leslie, the chocolate teardrop was on the menu then!
