  1. I second the recomendation for Spargo's Grille in Manalapan. I Cavellini in Colts Neck is very good and I love El Meson. When Peking Pavillion finishes rebuilding from the fire I'll be there, I miss them terribly.

I'd avoid Citrus in Freehold though. Very disappointing. And the guy who posted about it must own it. He only posts when he jumps on threads and tries to talk it up.

  2. Had a wonderful meal on December 16. I had a very nice foie gras appetizer. My wife had nicely presented oysters. I had the duck and she had the cod as our entrees, both excellent and we had a very nice cheese course to finish. It was our first time and we will be returning soon.

  3. The best pizza in NJ is at Delorenzos on Hudson Street in Trenton. No contest. Crisp tasty crust, crushed tomatos, not too much cheese. The garlic is hand chopped, the pepperoni hand cut into thick slices. three kinds of peppers are available. Chunks not slices of sausage.

Well worth the inevitable line to get in, lack of a bathroom and cash only. 3-10 only except lunch on Friday.

  4. We dined at Spargo's last night.  Tim Murphy is still chef/owner and the place is still wonderful.  The menu has recently been updated which was overdue and the specials are always creative and interesting.

    What did you have?

I started with butternut squash ravioli in a herb/butter sauce which were very nice. Pina colada chicken salad which has chinese noodles, pineapple chunks, chicken, chopped salad and a tropical kind of dressing is very refreshing and then cheatuabriand (sp?). All were wonderful. My wife had the butternut squash ravioli, a salad special with greens, apples, goat cheese and spiced nuts of some kind and a veal scallopine special with sausage, artichoke hearts and potato in a rich dark broth.

They had a special dessert of Bananas Foster over ice cream in some kind of sweet tortilla shell which was out of this world and was the perfect ending to a great meal.

  5. Citrus was very disappointing. The menu is interesting but the finished product was very ordinary. My wife and I found the service uneven despite only 3 tables being occupied on a Friday night.

75 South has gone steadily downhill over the past 3 years and is nothing like the quality place it once was.

The best of downtown Freehold is El Meson for Mexican and Trattoria Portobello and La Cippolina for Italian. Federici's for pizza of course.

  6. The best restaurant overall on LBI happens to be Italian. It is La Spiaggia on the causeway in Ship Bottom. Wonderful and creative food. Not cheap but its BYOB so that helps and its clearly worth the price. Good service, valet parking, you need reservations on the weekends in the summer. They close in the winter
