  1. Can you DD fans (helloooo, Randi!) tell me your favorite tables/why?  The owner of our company (a ridiculously particular man) thinks DD is one of his favorite new places, but he was saying that he's not sure about sitting in one room vs. the other.

Fwiw, he prefers a square or round table vs. one where 2-3 people sit on each side.  (I said he was PARTICULAR)...in any case, your suggestions/reasoning would be greatly appreciated, as I've never been there.

    Thanks in advance!

Sitting downstairs he would prefer (as I do) the room on your right as you enter, the room on your left is narrow with several seats on each side of the tables. Upstairs, the side with the bar has only small 2 person tables. The other side has both types.

  2. Ben & Jerry's was sold to Unilever in 2000. Although the founders are still engaged with the company, they do not hold any board or management position and are not involved in day-to-day management of the company. This was the start of the deterioration in quality that has led to the inferior product sold today.

  3. Matt, I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post about my experience at AHD on Friday. I do accept your apology and believe it to be sincere. You don't know me by name but we have spoken in the Verona store on a couple of occasions quite a while ago. This was my first visit to Boundbrook.

I will return and give Boundbrook another try since I truly enjoy your dogs and consider them the best in NJ. Since I live in Monmouth county it will likely be a while before I get up your way again.

  4. Let me start by saying I have been a big fan of AH since the first store opened in Verona. My wife and I went to the Boundbrook location for lunch today and had an absolutely horrible experience. There were 2 employees working, a cashier and hot dog preparer. There was no sign of Matt or Eric.

We arrived at 12:20 and stood in line for 15 minutes to order. There were only 5 people in line ahead of me but it took 15 minutes for the cashier to take their orders. The cashier was not helping to prepare food, he was only taking and handing out orders. There was an angry mob waiting for their food. Why were they angry? I soon found out as I became just as angry. From the time I ordered and paid, (time stamped on my reciept) it took 50 minutes to recieve part of the order and another 15 minutes to get the balance of the order. During this hour wait the angry mob grew larger and angrier. There was much screaming, cursing and bad attitude. And that was just from the woman making the hot dogs. The mob was even worse. Some asked for their money back and recieved it. Others just left with no refund and food. Some were given the wrong items but took them just to get something and get out of there.

I asked the cashier where Matt was and was told "I wish he were here". I asked what was the problem and was told by the cashier "I don't really work here, I'm just helping out. Everyone had to go to an affair" Among her ranting the woman making the hot dogs told the waiting mob, "I'm really just supposed to be a cashier, I don't really know what I'm doing." Truer words were never spoken. Orders (including mine) were lost, most were made wrong, all were delivered missing one or more ordered items. The cashier kept saying he was sorry for the wait, mistakes and confusion but made no effort to compensate anybody for the problems.

The most common phrase uttered by the customers was "I'm never coming back here again". I have been wondering why the Verona location closed when the the hot dogs are so wonderful. I may have gotten my answer today.

BTW, when we finally got them, the dogs were wonderful, which makes the horrible way this place is being run even more of a tragedy.

I know the owners haven't commented on the Verona closing which I find understandable due to the emotional and possibly the legal issues involved in a store closing. I do hope they can respond to the service issues I encountered today in Boundbrook.

  5. Got a res for 5:30 on October 6th.  Real excited.  Just out of curiosity, what is the cancellation policy for one person?  I understood $150 per person cancellation fee.  Is there a time (48 hours) associated with this?  For instance if I found out this week my wife couldn't go, would we have to pay or still be in the clear as long as we let them know?  Thanks.

When I recently made a reservation for Sept. 18 they told me to cancel at least 7 days prior to avoid the fee.

  6. We are inching every so close to a 2nd location. We are hoping that this week brings us to the next level of the negotiations.  Too early to spill the beans, though.

I'll let you guys know when things are more definate.

MMMMM You guys have baked beans now?

  7. I have dined at RHR and two weeks ago at GR at the London. I found the meal and service to be excellent but at a level below RHR. I plan on returning in several in several months to see if they have improved since RHR was the best meal I have ever had.

  8. There are also 2 empty storefronts right on Nassau Street in downtown Princeton on the block just north of Palmer Square. Directly across the street from the University. Lots of foot traffic 12 months of the year from students, tourists and office workers. Parking can be difficult around there though, only meters and 2 large parking garages.

  9. My wife and I had dinner at DD Friday evening, our 5th time there. We have also been to Nicholas 4 times in the past year.

FOOD --- David Drake is better

    Service --- Nicholas is better

Decor --- I prefer Nicholas but consider this a matter of personal preference

Bottom line is I go out to a fine dining restaurant for the food so I give the sdge to David Drake.

Friday night I had an appetizer consisiting of a steamed egg with mushrooms and some type of foam that was fantastic. Tasted great, very creative and unique. I have been impressed each and every time I have been to DD.

  10. First trip to AHD today. We were taking a trip from Freehold up to the Wine Library and made a detour. It was as good as everyone has said. Eric wasn't there but Matt was.

My wife and I split a schmeero, I had a Hawaii 5-0 and she had a Phoenix which was too hot for me. Loved the schmeero the best, the 5-0 was great also. We split a small fries (not small at all) and the taste was great but would have preferred they were crisper ( most were kind of limp). The chipolte mayo was fantastic with them. Looking forward to trying the nacho and reuben next time we are up that way.

Was a great meal and i wish you guys a lot of luck. Still think it would be a huge hit in downtown Princeton on Nassau St by the uninversity.

  11. There are a couple of empty storefronts on Nassau Street in Princeton (the main drag) right across the street from the University. There is always a lot of street traffic especially in the Palmer Square area. I think the college population would be a natural for your fare.
