Kerry is on her way back now at a somewhat slower pace.

So the Tex-Mex plan gave way to the sort of Irish plan.  Potato chips instead of corn chips.

     Undressed.

     Dressed to my fashion standards.

I've never dressed up potato chips before. I'll put it on the list. (maybe a nice frock for the weekend?)

In my neck of the woods, alas, Chapman's is the better option. A lot of local venues have switched to Nestle, which is just awful.

Nestle is horrible. (scandal after scandal) Chapman's is a very good option out here on the West coast too.

p.s I'm sure there are better ice creams at a higher price point.

After helping to make and delivering 100 lunches to a few homeless shelters in the city today, Mr. Kim took me to lunch at Salt and Forge, one of our favorite local restaurants.  Impeccably produced sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items - everything is either house made or locally sourced.  I started out with the BLT with Hanover tomatoes and pimento cheese:

Which immediately became Mr. Kim's because the pimento cheese was very spicy.  I was sorry for that, because it was otherwise delicious.  Luckily, Mr. Kim was willing to share.  He'd chosen the Cubano on a brioche bun:

It was incredibly good.  A really well balanced sandwich.  The pork was the star, though.  It came with a side of gazpacho - very, very good and not overwhelmed with bell pepper flavor.

The food looks great! Making lunch for the homeless is awesome and I'm sure really appreciated.

I am late posting these because they were an after breakfast snack. Pistachio almond cookies that Kerry made to take to work today. She left two for me. They looked like little crispy bites but were in fact chewy and quite tasty.

Pistachio and almond are two of my favourite things. Is there a recipe around somewhere?

I am not afraid of a little spam so long as it does not end up in my in-box. Even so I don’t go crazy with it. I open a can, slice it, and freeze most of it. I ration the can out over a couple of weeks.

Wow, am I slow today, took me a minute (inbox)! Never thought of freezing it. Like Julia said "Everything in moderation...

    Yup.

The other expat hangout then was, IIRC, the Horse and Carriage. Lots of good memories, there. I even got to see Long John Baldry do a few songs, on his birthday (the party was in the upstairs, but he and Sybil Thrasher did a few numbers on the main stage by popular demand).

The wonderful old Horse and Carriage Inn on Alberni St. The only place you could drink on a Sunday night (with a 25 cent choose plate). With Jim the owner who sang like Neil Diamond and Tony Duffy the Irish singing bartender. Fun days.

Ol' Bill had, of all things, an English fish & chips place in Vancouver when I lived there in the 80s. It was called the Dover Arms, I think. I saw him there a couple of times, and was quite amused at how well the caricature on the perogie-maker label captured his features and personality.

I remember the fish as being pretty good, and it was certainly a hangout for the expat Brit crowd at the time (my then-GF was part of that crew...she was South American mestizo by blood, and very exotic looking, but a cockney by upbringing).

I was a cab driver in Van back then. It was on Denman I think. He was larger than life!

Guys I've turned up here 2 days in a row with crap pictures of average dinners only to be scared away. Ease up with the beautiful, amazing meals! 😂

Well done all. Please feed me.

These guys use professional food stylists. Let us mere mortals see some crap pictures.

This sounds like a lovely and delicious chicken BLT.  For those who like avocado, that might be a nice addition, too.  But it isn't a club sandwich in my world.

    We still love you Kim!

I've been served bannock bread by First Nations people near Moose Factory, Ontario.  It was a freshly baked sweet bread with raisins, accompanied by surprisingly good tea.  Reminded me of something similar from Scotland.

It came from Scotland. I've never had it sweet before. Sounds good.
