  1. I'd go for Napa Rose, right in Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. We were there in May and ate at the chef's counter one night and twice in the bar eating so much food they had to put two tables together for my husband and I. He (Andrew Sutton) and the entire staff embrace children and their parents and the kids have great choices that don't pander down to some childish level but just simply well prepared fresh food. It's a lovely setting and the dress code is anywhere from those coming straight from the park to those who are making it more special of an evening. His advice is if you like and have children come at 5:30, if you don't come at 8:00. a hui hou!

  2. Well this one is about wine from Rob Bigelow of Bellagio at a recent Pinot Noir tasting at the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival this past July, it remains quite memorable for me:

"It's the kind of wine you can drink early in the afternoon and feel good about later."

I can't remember how many we tasted that morning, probably 10 or 12 and this was at the beginning of the tasting.

  3. Yes, it was. What an interesting twist. I still stand behind Dale no matter the outcome.

He'll go on to great things on his own as his plans dictate and has made a lot of friends and contacts along the way. He's a gracious guy and Casey is all class too! IMUA!!!!

    Whoops! Spelled a word wrong!

  4. Ohhhhhhhhh, we've got to wait so long to know the winner! I'll have to keep myself occupied not to check this thread later as most of you will know way before we do!

I met and interviewed Dale and even if I hadn't I'd be all for him. I think he's going to pull it out and win. He's defintely my pick of the night!

  5. Dale Levitski is coming to our fair town to guest chef at Hank's Haute Dog's - Hank has challenged him to create a Kobe dog featuring Australian Waygu beef on Sunday Sept. 16th. Hank of course is Henry Adaniya of Trio in Evanston, IL fame. Looking forward to this event! a hui hou

  6. Aloha & Mahalo for bringing up a most important passing. We shall toast to him and the work he did this weekend. Maybe every bar should turn a glass/pint whatever upside down in his dear honor and memory. A hui hou Michael Jackson, you did good!

  7. We had another EXCELLENT lunch at Hank's last Friday. Just fabulous. The crunch and pop of the hot dog casing when bitten into evokes so many descriptions, pure joy and delight being the best one. We had a Chili Dog, a Polish and a Chicago Dog with EVERYTHING, 2 orders of onion rings, fries and 3 hibiscus lemonades. DELICIOUS!!!!

The thing about this place is, they make you feel glad you came! Honestly, they make everyone feel welcome and a part of things which so enhances the experience. The other thing is, they are not "trying" they are genuinely nice, completely service oriented and love what they do - this of course follows through into their culture of Aloha. I hope everyone resident and visitor makes their way to 324 Coral Street to enjoy a truly exceptional treat as they continue to delight and welcome old friends and new. They do have a website www.hankshautedogs.com

O.K. so I'm not that technical to put in the link but just go and have a great time!:biggrin: A hui hou! I can't wait until the next time!

  8. Aloha! I've had excellent success with this seasoning packet, a chuck roast or whatever else you may select in a roast in my crock pot. Unfortunately we don't have the ideal bread like in Chicago but I've used other long white breads that work. Peppers round out the taste. I've done this for 3 parties so far with some guests who have been to Chicago and had "real" Italian Beef sandwiches to those who have never and everyone was pleased. There is enough juice too for dipping. Try it! www.louieseasoning.com

Although I'm dying for November when I return for a "real" sandwich - a hui hou!

  9. Yep, I'm looking forward to it. I'll probably go later in the week - it takes a lot to get me out of the house and all the way into town! This would be an example! Great you are coming out for a vacation, the weather has been pretty great! A hui hou  I miss my "Chicago" food and make the most of my twice yearly trips there.

  10. I just read and am anxious to eat at Henry Adaniya's newest venture in Honolulu, Hank's Haute

Dogs! I am sure you all in the Heartland miss him and now we have him! It was a treat to eat a

Vienna Dog at this afternoon's restaurant trade show and enjoy that great green relish and hot peppers! This is to open 7/16 when any of you folks get to Hawaii I'm sure it will be on your list!

I'll report back sometime with the experience! Just thought you all would like to know! A hui hou

  11. I'm just glad that I don't need to look at Melissa's hair any longer.

I'll second that and add to me she looked like a Manson follower with that blank

    yet crazed facial expression.

    crank?

Personally, I think she was overdoing the hair to distract people form whatever she had going on under her lip. I noticed as it got bigger, so did her hair.

TRUE! It was like the alien or something!

  12. Saw the movie in the morning on our anniversary, loved it! I was kind of confused at first with the mini movie "Lift" though. Anyway I really enjoyed the music, the animation and even the big eyes. What seemed somewhat unecessary was the scene of the couple with the gun fighting and then kissing madly, I don't know why we needed to see domestic violence portrayed. I loved the rats going through the dishwasher!

  13. I don't know if they cut it or not - I was channel switching while making my dog food and I heard the part about apples, and what to not refridgerate. I greatly enjoyed what I heard and shall put you at the top of my reading list - shame on me for not doing so already! I was curious however about the comment that bananas are not grown commercially here in the U.S. what about our farmers here in HI? Tell them that when their crops get ripped off and they lose thouands and thousands of dollars as the thefts are almost impossible to control in some fields. They also have had problems with Banana Bunchy top which totally ruins current and future crops. Keep up the good work

    and a hui hou!

  14. I like Tre as well.  He seems to have his head screwed on straight, and also seems to have a ton of talent.

On first blush, this crop of chef-testants seem both more normal and more talented than Season 2.  There was no one that immediately annoyed me tonight.

And I must say, I am in Trash TV heaven.  Food Network Star on Sundays, Hell's Kitchen on Mondays and Top Chef on Wednesdays.  Life is good......*sigh*.

I must add, I've become addicted to "Deadliest Catch" and the 4 part min-series "After the Catch"

Tuesdays on Discovery, man, that crab fishing is one tough job! Anyone else watching? A hui hou!

  15. I'm greatly enjoying Chez Jacque by Jacque Pepin. I'm still reading Heat, somehow I keep reading the same things because I forget where I left off, I really like it so it's

a shame I can't keep focused! I must admit, I read Paula Deen's autobiography and really enjoyed it. I know, I know, everyone hates the FN but this was a very good read for me anyway, entertaining and moved quickly, what a life she's had. Completely un food like but a James Patterson novel that I can't seem to focus on and finish either.

I want to re-read Angele Pellegrini's "The Unpredjudiced Palate" and I think I'll take that to Kapalua this month to read in between wine tastings and cooking demos at the festival.

  16. When we dined at Spago the server approached the table and asked if we wanted

(names of bottled water) or "our own Beverly Hills finest" which was amusing to us

    we went with the "finest."

  17. Your menu looks fabulous! Wish I were coming. We finally get to attend our friends' annual Derby party after a two year absence due to travel. They have a huge spread of traditional KY food and lots and lots of juleps. They have a huge collection of Derby glasses that they serve the juleps in and each couple gets a certain year so you can remember whose is whose. They order up a bunch of merchandise from the Churchill Downs website and give away fabulous prizes to win/place/show and then for last place.

I'ts loads of fun and we are glad to be able to attend again. Let's hope traffic isn't to merciless with Don Ho's memorial service down in Waikiki that day. I know, I know it's in the afternoon but over 25,000 are expected to attend so they'll be getting there early. That's the one thing about the time zones, it's an amazing thing to start drinking at 10:00 am (those lovely juleps) as that's when brunch starts prior to post time

  18. Aloha ejw50! Sounds like you had a good trip. Can you tell us about your dinner(s)

at Spago? I too love it!

I enjoyed Nick's as well, I was amazed at how many people were serving our table

I kind of lost track. Their flaming desserts are fun.
