  1. Hi there Trattoria Liliana is perhaps my favorite neighborhood restaurant for quality eats. Their ravioli, roast lamb, mixed seafood appetizer and winelist are enough to keep me coming back. While the menu doesn't vary much, the specials are almost always worth a bi-weekly stop in. A note: good Tiramisu if you like that kind of thing :)
  2. somehow, that juxtaposition is wretched. but made even more so by the fact that Pizza Hut has bleu cheese dipping sauce for the pizza....
  3. I second Sparky's as my favorite espresso/coffeehouse -- at 14th and R. Independently owned, smoking allowed in the front section, internet access (but not WiFi, as far as I know) and great espresso drinks. My favorite bistro/cafe in that part of town is Saint Ex (14th and T).. they're doing a few tastings in the next month or so... 4. Hi Morela- I am not on the CP payroll but have been tapped to write articles on music and other events from time to time. I have also partnered with them for Literacy Volunteer fundraisers -- showcasing local bands. Citypaper is great for publicizing grass-roots DC events. As an update-- the meal-o-matic efforts are progressing well, with several chef volunteers. I will post more information as it becomes available. cheers- dumplin'
  5. Don't know where he's eating tonight- but last night he dined at the National Press Club. http://www.press.org/abouttheclub/restaurants.cfm If I call his publishing house, does that cross the "stalker" line?
  6. http://www.olssons.com/cgi-cart/events.pl#2 I couldn't find this posted elsewhere on the eGullet- apologies if this is duplicative.... Is it just me, or is this guy the most appealing man in food?
  7. Actually, if you want to see the column online, you might want to write to Dave Nuttycombe, the Washington CityPaper Webmeister at webmeister@washcp.com I do know that the budgets for the print vs. online editions of the CityPaper compete for funding, and that advertisers are loathe to buy ads for the online edition, hence the slim content at www.washingtoncitypaper.com cheers--
  8. I really like the Tako Grill in Bethesda-particularly for the warm salmon roll and the sake list. I prefer Sushi Taro on P & 17th for atmosphere. Neither of these places is near a skin joint, however
  9. Ode to a Bialy Past the tubs of salt pickles And the skewered Halal Past the worn sign at Katz's ---(where you can still mail a Salami ---to your Boy in the Army) I trod frantic and true, further Past tubs of cashews To the bakery's warm light And go in-- yes, I might. For weeks I was drawn by your garlicky scent Your fresh powdered skin Your lumpen indent But I was a shy Shiksa Without kosher bent I mixed meat with milk I fasted for Lent So t'was no small feat then As I blushed pomegranate And stuttered my order And handed .50-cent But you took it in stride Nestled warm in my palm Was your unadorned sack My heartbeat grew calm Was it love? Not at first For your guise is a fright But it's love at long last From that very first bite. love, |dumplin'|
