  1. I went to graduate school at CCM and was amazed to see that there was a place that had a Cincinnati night and so I went a couple of months ago. It was very crowded and fairly authentic. The chilli was Skyline's (which is great - I don't care what anyone says) but the hot dog and buns weren't authentic and the cheese was shredded differently. But it was still close enough. The Graeters was fab of course. Boy do I miss that place. The only drawback is the price. One coney, one 3 way, ice cream, and a beer was something like $38. In Cinty, that whole meal would have cost about $10. Still, it felt good to be eating comfort food from somewhere else. Rick
  2. For years I worked a couple of months a year in Frankfurt Germany and became addicted to a chocolate bar called (believe it or not) Herren Schwarzen Schokolade. It's an odd name and it isn't some sort of fancy chocolate bar but I don't think I've ever tasted better dark chocolate. Has anyone heard of it? It's not available over here (I've looked) but if you ever find yourself in Germany, be sure to find it. R
  3. Tony, I have a question. Is the market in Paris (which replaced Les Halles) open for public access? Rick
  4. I was left wondering why Katie didn't just serve a classic creme brulee, omitting the lavender when she found out that she left lavender off of her mis list. ← Last summer in Provence I had lavender ice cream and felt like I was washing my own mouth with soap!

    Marseille

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that out. I will be based in the center of M for all two weeks but will be able to travel around while I'm there. R

    Marseille

I'm going to Marseille for a couple of weeks at the end of May. Can anyone give good restaurant recommendations? - both expensive and cheap? R

    wd-50

I had a very good meal at WD50 but wonder if anyone would want to eat there more than once? I don't really want to have to psychoanalyze my food very often. It should also be said that I went directly to Katz's and had a fantastic pastrami sandwich which alleviated my hunger. Rick
  8. The salads at Carne (believe or not) are very good. Especially the chopped salad. Rick
  9. I worked in Louisville for a month or so last year and did a lot of visitations to bourbon distilleries while I was there. I have to say, I had been a Maker's Mark fan for years but Basil Hayden and Woodford Reserve are now my go to bourbons. And I must say that everyone who finds themselves near KY should go visit these places. They're beautiful and the tours are great. There are no tastings (many distilleries are even in dry counties) but they all offer great bourbon balls.
  10. I've got to weigh in. Spiced Right in Lawrenceville has always been a family favorite and I can't say I've ever had a bad meal there. They have a great lunch buffet too for around $5. Stick with the pork and the beans. Lately, when I've been at home (I live in NYC though I'm from Atlanta) we order from Pig n Chick and I think it's equally as good as Spiced Right. Even the sauce is as good.
