  1. There's a little sushi place near our apartment called Ninjin - it's on 6th and Colorado and really tasty. Next door to it is a darling Italian place with the yummiest pasta called Fritto Misto. Both nice little treats. Enjoy Santa Monica - we just moved here. PM me if you would like to meet up or for other recommendations. We live next door to Border Grill which is really good too.
  2. Table 1280: Shaun Doty is no longer there - he's at his own place in Inman Park, called, naturally.....Shaun's. It's good. I would go to Cantina La Casita in East Atlanta for yummy mexican food. And it's cheap, too. As for you OTPs out there, I would normally think that a visitor to Atlanta isn't looking to drive outside the perimeter unless the restaurant is really exceptional. Shorty's is a pizza place on Druid Hills Road. Haven't been yet.
  3. Restaurant Eugene is amazing - one of the best meals I have ever had, anywhere. It's pricey, though. I adore Rathbun's Trois is pretty, but the food is just ok. What type of dining are you looking for?

    Super Bowl

Daniel, I see some very happy guests in your future!
  7. My go-to meal on a night with little time is a shrimp in a bacon chile sauce found in a Food & Wine last year. You render the bacon in 2 tb EVOO, pour off all but 1TB Toss in a bit of jalapenos (or thai chiles) and 3 cloves of garlic, minced toss in 1.5 lbs of shrimp (peeled and deveined) Splash in a 1/4 cup of white wine Let shrimp get pink Toss in 1/4 cup of chopped mint Serve over couscous. It is fantastic and crazy easy and fast.

Those fries look great.. How did you make them.. ← Oh, Daniel, I am mortified to tell you - they are OreIda fast food frozen fries! But, we went to the butcher and he gave us some tallow. We cut it up and put it in the fryer with the peanut oil to make them taste more like McDonald's.

    Dinner! 2007

I giggled when I saw shengcai's post. That's what I've made recently too! And it has been too long that I have enjoyed this thread - time to join in the fun: Last night - my darling husband's burgers - doubles! And a few nights ago, southern fried chicken, sauteed okra and yummy mashed potatoes: Tomorrow we are making a birthday dinner for a dear friend - will be sure to post those pics as well. Sorry they are so blurry - I am in the process of shopping for a new digital.

Shaya - may I get the recipe for eggplant sandwiches stuffed with shrimp? That looks amazingly delicious. Chufi, you too!! WOW! Those pics are beautiful and the rolls look so scrumptious. I have got to start documenting my dinners - I try and do something different every night.
  11. Thanks, Tino. I might just wait until Sunday to put it together.
  12. Do you think I should put the roll into the freezer after I assemble it?
  13. Really? No one has an answer? I'm awash in a sea of professionals and just need one teeny little answer. Many many thanks!!
  14. Making Ina Garten's Sundried Tomato Palmiers for a party on Sunday. Can I fill the puff pastry, roll it and then wrap it in seran wrap to slice and bake on Sunday? This would really be a time saver. Thanks!
  15. I love this commentary, Racheld - so observing and so descriptive. Lovely. As for the party - I am thrilled and in awe. Wow.
  16. Terrific suggestions, all! I want to do every one of them. Hmmm. How to incorporate it all? Maybe the beef tenderloin with eggplant parm and a shrimp appy. Anyone got a great shrimp appy idea? And a fabulous salad and asparagus. With blueberry crumble for dessert.
  17. Justin, What a lucky girl!! Have you ever attempted making foie gras at home? I bet that would be stupendous. It all sounds fantastic! She will be blown away. P
  18. I am hosting a dinner party Wednesday night for a group of friends that I met working on a gubernatorial campaign. Wednesday night is the debate, and while I am a volunteer, my guests are all staffers that have been burning the midnight oil. I really want to pamper them with a gorgeous dinner - can you help? To start, I was thinking champagne and caviar on halved red potatoes For dinner maybe crabcakes, filet mignon and some healthy lovely veggie dishes (they have eaten so much junk lately, I thought that some fresh food would be a welcome change). We are also planning a drinking game for when our candidate says some random phrase (you know the drill.....). Any other ideas? Thanks!
  19. LOL, Catherine, you are a delight!
  20. Catherine, does mayonnaise have eggs in it? I have done the curried chicken salad in phyllo cups and people love them. They also seem to really love chcolate covered potato chips. I had a party guest at our Christmas party stand by the bowl and munch the entire night. LOL.
  21. Do you think it was dreadful because he wasn't there? Or is the Vegas DB just not a very good restaurant? ← Rich, I really just can't say. The waiter kept telling us how hungover he was, the sommelier came over to push bottles after we had just ordered by the glass, the beef was overcooked. It was just a total disappointment.
  22. Give it a try. Many high fat items freeze very well. I freeze Reblochon when we get it in volume at the source and does quite nicely. Butter also freezes well. Why don't you make a tuscan white bean soup with it? You won't be sorry. Put the lardons back in with your meat at the time you add the liquid for slow cooking. ← Thank you - that sounds divine!
  23. It all depends...but I am the biggest chef groupie and am always so thrilled to meet them - especially when we are traveling. So, for me, the answer is - better to have the chef in the kitchen. In Vegas this past Thanksgiving we ate at Daniel Boulud's and it was dreadful. I'm guessing he was not in house.
  24. I made a stock with the leftover Easter lamb. Now what can I do with it?
  25. Well said, Sugar. And for the post on manners - that is what we learn at birth. "A woman with lovely manners can go everywhere", was my mama's mantra. When we speak it all sounds sweet, even if we are not meaning to be sweet. We are tough, but look soft. We smell delicious, but can organize circles around men. We can pop a cake in the oven one moment and tend to a child's cut knee the next.
