  1. Thanks so much for the recommendations! We really appreciate your responses.
  2. Hi, My friend needs a caterer for a party of approximately 25 people in Cambridge. Budget is not an issue. Any recommendations? Thanks so much.
  3. Shrubsole in Manhattan has an excellent reputation for selling complete sets of well-cared-for used and valuable silver (and I'd guess worthy of passing from generation to generation). They're quite expensive, however. It's certainly worth a look when in the city. I t's also worthwhile to check the auction houses in NY, esp. during the summer, when many dealers are away, for silver flatware. My husband and I bought a lovely set of silver in July (admittedly quite a few years ago) for an amazing price -- the only problem might be, in this situation, that replacement pieces will be more difficult to find. Good luck.
  4. Thanks to all. I'm going to try justknives101 and will let you know how it goes. Oh, and BeerGut, let me know how you like the razor's edge system. I need something completely foolproof, though. I am mechanically-impaired. My husband thinks he does a good job but he really doesn't. I've heard that Chef Central does knife sharpening and may give them a try when in the neighborhood... which is rarely. Will they do it while you wait or do you have to come back to pick up your knives? Thanks again to everyone who responded. I love egullet.
  5. I have alot of knives that need to be sharpened. I live in Montclair and would love to find a professional service that knows how to sharpen all kinds of kitchen knives. I've been told that Japanese knives need to be sharpened differently than German and American and since I have all kinds I'd like to bring my knives to a place that knows what they're doing. I tried a local hardware store once on some inexpensive knives just to see how they came out...they were fine but when I discussed Japanese knives they acted like I was speaking Japanese And yes, I have read the eG course on knife sharpening but, honestly, I'd much rather someone else do it Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
  6. Thanks so much, Divina. We will definitely try Gusto -- it sounds perfect for us!! I wonder, are zucchini blossoms in season now? I've had them in Florence in early July...deep fried or stuffed -- I love them any way they serve them. Campo dei Fiori is most certainly on my agenda. I wouldn't miss it!
  7. Thank you, Dale J. and Steve, We will definitely check out your recommendations. A friend recommended Da Francesco for not only pizza but classic primi and secondi. Does anyone have any comments on this establishment? Any and all comments are most welcome...while my kids do not exactly have the most sophisticated palates (we're working on it, trust me!!), my husband and I are accustomed to great NYC cuisine. We always try to find places that we can all enjoy, however, especially when we travel. We will also be spending time near the Spanish Steps and most tourist areas so TALK TO ME, PEOPLE!!! Because I'm listening and am most interested. My husband is in charge of the tourism aspect and I'm delighted to be in charge of eating
  8. My husband and I are taking our two teenage boys to Rome next week for 5 days. We'll be staying at the Grand Hotel de la Minerve across from the Pantheon. It's been way too long since we've been in Rome and this is the first time for my kids, who are somewhat finicky eaters...but they really love Italian pizza and pasta. I'm interested in recommendations for "best pizza" and any other casual trattorias that are especially wonderful and easily accessible from our hotel. I've been known to travel to distant parts of cities in search of the best pizza so if there are any places that are definitely "worth a trip" I'd be happy to know about them as well. Thanks so much for any recommendations.
  9. Hi, Rosie. I've been reading egullet for a long time now -- this is my first post. I heard you today on Food Talk and thought you were terrific. You mentioned the name of a chef who will come to one's house to cook (and clean up ). I am looking for someone who can cook a wonderful dinner for smallish (4-10 person) dinner parties so I can entertain and have someone else do the real "work" so I can relax and enjoy the party. I'd love to have a great chef who will come to my house with everything we need and do a turnkey job -- from marketing to cleanup. Can you -- or anyone else, please, give me some names? I live in Montclair, if that makes a difference. Thanks.
